Review of Club Med’s Cefalu Resort
It was a very early, cold & wet late September morning in London, when I joined the EasyJet flight from Gatwick to Palermo. Apart from a ski holiday in Cervinia many moons ago, I had never been to Italy, & I really didn’t not know what to expect…
On arrival at the luxury, all-inclusive resort of Club Med Cefalu, it was just picture of pure beauty. Set along the rugged sea cliffs, with unparalleled 180-degree views over the Mediterranean Sea. My first impression (& please excuse the cliché) was “Wow”! After meeting the Club Med resort team of GO’s (Gentils Organisateurs), & the very welcome, Welcome Drink, we were shown to our rooms. As soon as I walked into my room, I could see why the resort warranted its proud premium all inclusive status. My Superior sea-facing room was just beautiful, the walk-in shower could have accommodated 3 & the huge bath looked so inviting, especially as the personal-care selection included the most heavenly scented lotions & potions.
As I opened the doors leading out to my balcony, the view was so lovely. Pathways surrounded by lovingly cared for shrubs & flowers, leading down to the sea. After a long soak in my gorgeous bubble-bath, I made my way to the La Rocca restaurant, which was amazing, delicious local specialities, & a magnificent buffet offering a great selection from around the world. Whatever your choice, whatever your appetite, you can eat as much as you like. La Rocca was my favourite restaurant throughout the resort, because of the numerous dishes to choose from. Another wonderful dining option is La Riva Beach Restaurant. Enjoy the show, with a selection of fresh food cooked in front of you. Alternately, indulge in a surf & turf barbecue & of course enjoy a genuine Italian ice cream. There is also the Palazzo Gourmet Lounge. Late breakfast, antipasti or pastries – where you can find something you fancy all day long, through to dinner, Italian style. There is a beautifully Baroque influence plus a touch of glamour, inspired by the stars of Italian cinema. Here you will enjoy dishes devised by a Michelin-star chef, Andrea Berton, with waiter service, of course.
There is an abundance of activities to help dispel the calories, including Stand Up Paddle Boarding, Sailing, Snorkelling & Kayaking. You could even try Yoga on Paddle Boards; it was great fun; my only rather obvious advice is ‘try not to fall off’! There are also fitness classes, throughout the day. However, if you just want to chillax, you can opt for one of the calming massages in the beautiful Spa. Cefalu Town is within walking distance & will take around twenty minutes along the coastal road. It’s a very pleasant walk, with the sound of the waves splashing up against the rocks & the sun shining on your face. When we reached the town, we walked along the cobbled streets to take in the true Italian atmosphere. There are lots of shops, some peddling the usual tourist wares & then the top-quality & rather expensive. So, something for everyone. If you wish to go further afield Italian style, you can hire a Fiat 500, or Vespa from reception. I didn’t have my licence with me, but next time I am going to hire a Vespa for the day. Please remember all the usual safety precautions, though.
There are several bars to choose from; Eden Bar; As you chill out by the zen natural pool, why not try a delicious fresh fruit ‘Mocktail’? Or maybe a more familiar but equally delicious iced tea, or genuine Italian espresso. This is what is called living the Dolce Vita! Covo Bar; Take a break from an active day of water sports with refreshments at this open-air beach bar. The team will serve you fresh drinks & cocktails whilst you take in the amazing sea views. Azzurro; During the summer season, from May to October, this main bar – located in the heart of the Resort – is open all day long, in a fun, relaxed spirit, typical of Italian hospitality. Champagne served by the glass from 6 pm…well, it would be rude not to! Although Sicily is the largest of the Mediterranean islands, while holidaying in Cefalu, you will feel that you are in your own corner of the world.
If you like the look of this resort, but are not a sun-worshipper, why not go out of the summer season. The resort is open during the winter season, with many options, including escorted Hiking. Unleash your adventurous side with friends or family. Work your way over the mountain trails & defy the slopes, as your fitness allows. The nature walks are suitable for learning about flora & fauna & infused with culture, depending on the chosen theme.
Club Med Cefalu ‘ticks the boxes’ for such a wide range of adults! I’m fortunate to travel a lot & I see many beautiful resorts; Cefalu is definitely one of my personal favourites!
