As part of the Travel Club Elite team, I recently had the pleasure of staying at one Club Meds idyllic Maldivian retreats—and this is my Club Med Kani review. Not just another holiday but an opportunity to experience a well-loved, premium all-inclusive resort that combines comfort, great service, and a relaxed island vibe. Club Med Kani is perfect for couples, friends, or anyone seeking a stress-free escape in a stunning tropical setting.
Overview & First Impressions of Club Med Kani
How incredible it felt to arrive in Malé by air and then skim across a sea of turquoise on a sleek speedboat. The brief journey carried us past gleaming yachts and scattered atolls crowned with water villas, towards Club Med’s own exclusive tropical island, Kanifinholu. A jewel in the North Malé Atoll, encircled by a shimmering lagoon and pristine white sands. From the moment we stepped onto Club Med Kani’s charming jetty, every experience thereafter made us feel like very special people indeed. The perfect setting for a couple celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary in November.
Accommodation
We were welcomed with a refreshing drink and a quick introduction to the resort before strolling along sandy paths with manicured borders to our Deluxe Room. Our luggage was already waiting outside, and to our delight, the room opened directly onto the beach and lagoon, its terrace framed by lush coconut palms.
Soon after, Ashan, our attentive housekeeper, greeted us warmly. He kept everything immaculate and thoughtfully left extra water each day, just as we had requested. He also left us friendly coloured sand messages!
Our first evening, we dressed for ‘Tropical Night,’ one of Club Med’s fun themed evenings. Guests can choose to join in, and the themes are easy to plan for in advance of your holiday thanks to the Club Med App, which also lists daily activities and lets you book the à la carte restaurant included in your stay. For us, that meant dining at the stunning Kandu restaurant, where a romantic alfresco deck with twinkling lights overlooks the lagoon—complete with tiny reef sharks gliding below!
Each evening before dinner there is also a relaxing ‘aperitif’ live music event on the beach at the Sunset Bar. After dinner there are also further entertainments and in particular, we really enjoyed a local Maldivian show of traditional dancers.

Food & Dining
The food throughout our stay was outstanding and was mostly eaten in The Veli restaurant. We love Asian cuisine, and the chefs at Club Med Kani excel at it—Indian, Chinese, Japanese, and more. A highlight was the stir-fried rice station, where we picked our ingredients and watched the chef create a fragrant dish with soy sauce and egg. Absolutely delicious.

Club Med Kani Resort Experience
For us, the marine life and wildlife made this holiday truly unforgettable. We encountered creatures we had only ever seen on nature documentaries—never imagining we would witness them in person. Each day brought new wonders: fruit bats at dusk overhead, koel birds calling from the trees, herons wading gracefully as at low tide in the lagoon, white-breasted waterhens—the national bird—hurrying along the shore, and hermit crabs scuttling across the sand at the end of the day.
Hermit Crab and Banyan Tree
Snorkeling became our daily ritual, revealing a vibrant underwater world. Corals and sea cucumbers, grey reef sharks, rays, and a dazzling array of fish—piper fish, clownfish, puffer fish, angelfish, needlefish, even a humpback unicorn fish and jobfish, to name just a few. You can explore the lagoon yourself, where the water is warm and waist-deep and dotted with coral, or join the twice-daily boat trips included in your stay. Club Med provides all the equipment for those excursions, including life jackets, and some mornings there’s even a guided snorkel safari trail at 10 a.m.
Service
As mentioned earlier, the staff at Club Med Kani were exceptional—polite, attentive, and genuinely committed to making everything perfect. From tidying seaweed off the beach each morning to sweeping fallen leaves from the paths, their care was evident everywhere.
Club Med Kani is a dream for couples and friends alike. For us, it turned our 25th anniversary into a once-in-a-lifetime celebration.
My Club Med Kani Tips
- Book a direct flight if possible (just over 10 hours from Heathrow), so you arrive as fresh as possible.
- Take your own snorkel for spontaneous lagoon adventures (life jackets are provided in your room).
- As time flies when you’re having fun, pack a sun vest and swim shorts for snorkelling to help avoid getting burnt.
- Pack a small torch for finding your way after dark.
- If you plan to shop outside of Kani, pack something knee-length and a top that covers your shoulders for modesty.
