Impressions of Club Med Magna Marbella by Zoe
Location
A very warm welcome awaits you at the airport, with Club Med staff ready to get your holiday started as soon as you arrived. The journey from the airport takes about 30/40 minutes and you are greeted with a wonderful reception on arrival by the GOs & often the Chief De Village. Magna Marbella is set at the foot of the Sierra Blanca Mountains, in 12 acres of stunning grounds, giving splendid views down to the Mediterranean or back to the vast mountain range. Club Med offer an impressive range of excursions to the surrounding areas – whether you fancy a trip to beautiful old town of Marbella, fantastic flamenco shows, or a visit to the stunning city of Granada, located up at the heights of the Sierra Nevada, the location of this resort is perfect.
The hotel
The bedrooms are bright & spacious, with a Spanish style decor giving a very calming & relaxing feel – fully furnished balconies allow enjoyable views, comfortably, over the gardens, to the sea or towards the mountains. In typical Club Med French style, there is a separate W.C. with washbasin and a modern bathroom with two vanity sinks and a huge rainfall style shower cubicle – all the usual toiletries are provided. There is also plenty of towel hanging space and a hairdryer, to save space in your suitcase! Superior rooms have 2 large single beds that can convert to a double/king if preferred, strong working Wi-Fi & TV along with complimentary tea & coffee facilities – there is also a minibar included if you don’t feel like heading to one of the bars! There are also family & interconnecting rooms, Deluxe rooms, and suites – sea views are also bookable. A choice of 2 restaurants & 3 bars, a reception area with lobby & shops, an entertainment theatre, spa and medical centre complete the facilities in the main hotel.
What’s on-site
Among the 5 resort swimming pools, you’ll find the main children’s pool has waterspouts and a games area – perfect for the little ones to cool off in the hot weather. Childcare provision from 0-17 years is also on offer (chargeable for babies) and includes activities, arts & crafts, sports & games to name a few. There is also an indoor/outdoor pool located next to the spa and, along with this, you can escape the kids, or other holiday makers at the Zen pool, reserved for adults only and located at the back of the resort, as if set in the mountains. Last, but definitely not least, the large lagoon style freshwater swimming pool was designed to look as though you are sat at the beach and is equipped with loungers, red parasols & round cabana beds – a homage to the stylish chic of trendy Marbella beach clubs. Sports enthusiasts will love this resort – everything you can imagine is on offer, from trapeze, golf & fitness classes, to the usual tennis and Petanque. Also included is unlimited access to the Padel Tennis school giving you chance to learn this lively & intense sport that is the innovative form of tennis, now so popular everywhere.
Food & drink
Food, as you would expect from Club Med, is excellent. The main large buffet restaurant, ‘Suenos’ is available for breakfast, lunch & dinner which offers a different theme every night – from Japanese or Mexican to traditional Spanish tapas, All this along with the usual range of excellent buffet foods, catering for all tastes & needs. Their attention to dietary requirements is clear, with a provision for gluten free breads & pastas and soya & oat milk, among much more. If you fancy a break from the buffet service, they offer a more gourmet experience at the Tierra Lounge, open for lunch and dinner most days. Here you can experience the best local cuisine and wine with on-demand wine-tasting from their on-site wine cellar, which is highly recommended.
Stand-out detail:
Room keys no longer exist here, instead you are given a wristband, on check-in, saving any worry of constantly losing your room key and it also allows purchases in the shops to be added to your account. The resort offers five swimming pools dotted around the lush oasis in the heart of the city. The ‘My Club Med App’, once downloaded to your phone or tablet, is the ideal travel companion to prepare & organize your stay. You can find the Resort map, facilities & activities, and enjoy dedicated services to make the most of your stay all at the click of the app.
My Verdict:
Whether you are looking for a quick girlie weekend away, a family holiday or an energetic sporty stay, Magna Marbella is perfect for all.
