Review: Newmarket’s Cultural Journey Through the Iconic Cities of Amsterdam & Antwerp

Review of Amsterdam & Antwerp with Newmarket holidays

One of our travel experts here at Travel Club Elite, Jayne Macdonald, recently had the opportunity to visit Amsterdam and Belgium with Newmarket Holidays. Here’s Jayne’s review, sharing the wonderful experiences she had during her stay and recounting some of her favourite highlights from the trip.

Our recent trip to Amsterdam, Maastricht, and Antwerp was an absolute blast, packed with culture, music, stunning views, and plenty of great moments. It was the perfect mix of sightseeing, fun activities, and some much-needed relaxation, all topped off with the magical experience of seeing Andrea Rieu perform in his hometown of Maastricht. We kicked things off in Amsterdam, where the city’s lively vibe immediately drew us in. One of the highlights was the wine and cheese cruise along the famous canals. As we peacefully floated through the waterways, we got to enjoy some amazing local cheeses paired with delicious Dutch wines. Seeing the city from the canals was a completely different experience—we cruised under bridges, passed by charming old houses, and just soaked in the beautiful scenery. It was the perfect way to start the trip—so relaxing and enjoyable!

Next, we headed to Maastricht, a super picturesque town in the south of the Netherlands. It’s not just known for its beauty but also as the hometown of the famous violinist Andrea Rieu. The high point of the whole trip had to be his concert at Vrijthof Square. With the historic town centre as a backdrop, his performance was absolutely magical. The atmosphere was amazing, with people from all over the world coming together to enjoy the music. The waltzes and orchestral pieces floating through the night air made it an unforgettable evening.

While in Maastricht, we also took a sunset cruise on the Maas River, which was the perfect way to unwind. As the sun set and the city lights started to glow, we floated by the city’s landmarks, taking in the beautiful views. It was peaceful, romantic, and just a really lovely way to end a day of exploring. Our last stop was Antwerp, Belgium’s bustling port city. We spent the day wandering through its medieval streets, checking out the gorgeous Cathedral of Our Lady, and browsing the busy markets. Antwerp’s mix of history and modern life was fascinating, and we couldn’t resist indulging in some Belgian chocolates and waffles along the way. It was such a fun way to round out the trip and experience a different culture.

Overall, this trip was the perfect blend of culture, beauty, and entertainment. The wine and cheese cruise in Amsterdam was a real treat, the sunset cruise in Maastricht was peaceful and romantic, and the day in Antwerp gave us a great taste of Belgian life. But the Andrea Rieu concert in Maastricht was the true highlight, leaving us with memories that we’ll hold onto forever.
