Wendy Wu South America Review: Spotlighting Brazil & Beyond

Chris So Woon Yuen from Wendy Wu Tours:

Having recently returned from South America, I’ve been asked one question more than any other: what was Brazil really like? Honestly? It blows your mind.

Brazil is one of those destinations that hits you immediately. The colour, the culture, the energy – it’s everywhere. Yes, people know it for Carnival, beaches and big celebrations, but what stood out to me was the atmosphere. There’s this natural sense of fun and warmth. It’s vibrant without being overwhelming, lively without feeling chaotic. You feel it in the food, in the coffee culture, in the green landscapes and in the way people go about their daily lives. It’s not just somewhere you visit, it’s somewhere you experience.

Discovering Brazil with Wendy Wu

When people think of Brazil, they usually think of two places: Rio de Janeiro and Iguazu Falls. They’re the country’s headline acts, and rightly so. So that’s where we began. We spent three days in Rio, which, I think, is the perfect introduction to Brazil. Standing beneath Christ the Redeemer is one of those moments that’s difficult to put into words. You’ve seen the photos a thousand times, but being there in person is something else entirely. There’s a real sense of scale and presence.

Then there’s Sugarloaf Mountain. If you’re not a fan of heights, the cable car ride might test you slightly, but the views are absolutely worth it. Looking back across the city and over towards Christ the Redeemer from the top is unforgettable. From Rio, we travelled to Iguazu. What I love about how we structure our tours is that you don’t just see the falls from one angle. You experience both the Brazilian and the Argentinian sides. They’re entirely different perspectives as one offers wide, panoramic views, while the other immerses you right into the power of the water. Seeing both really completes the experience.

To balance the high-energy highlights, we also spent time in Buzios – a beautiful beach town that not everyone includes. For me, this was where I felt most connected to local life. Wandering through the markets, chatting to stallholders, being offered little samples as you walk past – there’s a relaxed rhythm to Búzios. You fall into step with it without even trying. It’s the perfect contrast to Rio’s scale and Iguazu’s drama.

Seeing More of South America With Wendy Wu

Of course, Brazil is just one part of what South America offers. For travellers who really want to immerse themselves, we operate our Ultimate South America tour – a 29-day journey covering highlights across the continent. That includes Brazil’s icons, as well as Peru and incredible sites like Machu Picchu. It’s one of our most comprehensive itineraries and ideal for seasoned travellers who would like to experience as much as possible in one trip.

That said, if you’re new to touring, 29 days can feel like a big commitment. In that case, something like Panoramic Peru, perhaps combined with a Rio extension, can be a fantastic alternative. The key thing is flexibility, there are options depending on how much time you have and how in-depth you’d like to go. Physically, our tours are designed to be accessible, so whether you’re new to group touring or a seasoned traveller, there’s a tour for everyone.

Why Choose Wendy Wu For Your South America Tour?

We’ve been operating for nearly three decades, and while many people know us for Asia, the same level of care and detail goes into our South America tours. What does that mean in practical terms? It means fully inclusive touring – the price you see covers your experiences, excursions and meals. There are no hidden extras once you arrive. You can budget confidently before you travel, which makes a long-haul destination like South America much easier to plan.

Group sizes are kept comfortable, typically between 14 and 28 travellers. You’re accompanied by a national escort and supported by knowledgeable local guides throughout. All meals are included, breakfast in your hotel and lunch and dinner in local restaurants, so you get an authentic taste of the destination without worrying about logistics. We also offer flexible stopover options, which is particularly helpful given the distance. Breaking up the journey with a city or beach stop can make the travel experience even more enjoyable.

Wendy Wu South America Review: Final Thoughts

If I had to sum up Brazil in one sentence, I’d say this: it’s a country of contrasts, but it all works beautifully together. You have iconic landmarks, dramatic natural wonders and relaxed coastal towns, but you also have a warmth and vibrancy that runs through everything. That’s what stayed with me most. South America can feel vast and complex when you first look at it on a map. But when it’s thoughtfully structured and fully inclusive, it becomes not just manageable, but deeply rewarding. Hopefully, sharing my experience has inspired you to consider Brazil – and perhaps even the wider continent – for your next big adventure!
