An extraordinary journey by cruise and luxury train, combining tropical islands, vibrant cities, abundant wildlife and dramatic natural wonders. Sail from Mauritius to Cape Town, then continue aboard the iconic Rovos Rail from Pretoria to Victoria Falls, travelling through Zimbabwe and Botswana’s renowned national parks on a truly unforgettable adventure.

Days 1-2: Fly UK to Mauritius
Fly overnight to Mauritius. On arrival, transfer to your all-inclusive hotel and enjoy the rest of the day to relax.

Day 3: Explore Mauritius
Today, take a private tour of the southwestern corner of the island. Learn about Mauritian culture on the shores of Grand Bassin, visiting a sacred Hindu site. Then, drive through the Black River Gorges National Park, pausing to admire Alexandra Falls before a stop at Chamarel Seven Coloured Earth Geopark. Then, visit a rum distillery for a tour where you’ll taste various varieties. Later in the day, explore the Curious Corner of Chamarel.

Day 4: Mauritius at leisure
Spend a day relaxing at the hotel or explore the local area.

Day 5: Board the Azamara Onward
After breakfast, transfer to Port Louis to board the Azamara Onward. The rest of the day is free to explore the ship’s facilities and settle into your cabin.

Day 6: Cruise – Reunion*
Arrive at the island of Reunion where you’ll dock at Pointes des Galets. From here you can head out on a hike or relax on one of the beaches.

Day 16: Cruise – Cape Town*
Explore Cape Town with your guide, visiting Greenmarket Square, the Castle of Good Hope, Company Gardens and colourful Bo-Kaap. Take the cableway up Table Mountain (weather permitting) for panoramic views, then enjoy a 14-course African dining experience at Gold Restaurant before returning to Azamara Onward.

Day 17: Arrive Cape Town
Disembark in Cape Town and explore the Cape Peninsula, travelling along scenic Chapman’s Peak (weather permitting) and visiting Boulders Beach to see African penguins. Later, fly to Johannesburg and transfer to Pretoria.

Day 18: All aboard Rovos Rail
Discover Pretoria’s highlights, including the Union Buildings, Voortrekker Monument and Paul Kruger House, with a drive past Church Square. Later, board the elegant Rovos Rail, settling in as your journey begins, ending the day with dinner in the dining car.

Day 19: Rovos – At Leisure
As you cross the Tropic of Capricorn and the Limpopo River, relax aboard Rovos Rail, enjoying fine dining, onboard comforts and ever-changing South African scenery.

Day 20: Rovos – Matobo National Park
Wake to views of Zimbabwe’s baobab landscapes and Bulawayo before a visit to Matobo National Park, where you can spot rhinos and black eagles, see ancient rock art, and explore bushmen caves and Cecil Rhodes’ grave.

Day 21: Rovos – Hwange National Park
Enjoy breakfast as the train travels along Hwange National Park’s edge, followed by an afternoon game drive to spot its abundant wildlife, before returning onboard for dinner.

Day 22: Arrive in Victoria Falls
Disembark at Victoria Falls and transfer to Botswana. Enjoy a sunset cruise on the Chobe River, spotting elephants, buffalo and antelope along the shoreline.

Start with an early-morning game drive in Chobe National Park, renowned for its high concentration of wildlife. Return for lunch, then head out again on an afternoon game drive.

Enjoy a final morning game drive in Chobe before returning to Victoria Falls. Later, take a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River, with views of the falls’ mist rising in the distance.
