Day 1 – Departure
Arrive at the airport for your overnight flight to Tokyo
Day 2 – Arrival in Tokyo
Upon arrival, transfer your hotel before short orientation walk of the city.
Day 3 – Tokyo
Start your day of exploration with a visit to the Shunkaen Bonsai Museum and the Imperial Palace East Gardens. After lunch, experience the Shinto Meiji shrine, dedicated to one of Japan’s past emperors.
Day 4 – Tokyo
This morning, embrace the modern Akihabara Electronic town and the Asakusa district. Later, take a short boat ride down the Sumida River to Ginza, where you’ll discover the peaceful Hamarikyu Gardens. The afternoon is free for you to explore.
Day 5 – Mount Fuji & Hakone
Drive towards Mount Fuji and visit the Kachi Kachi Yama Ropeway and the Ichiku Kubota Art Museum located on Lake Kawaguchi. Then head to the mountain resort of Hakone to discover the Hakone Botanical Garden of Wetland.
Day 6 – Hiroshima & Miyajima shrine
Travel to Hiroshima on Japan’s iconic bullet train. You’ll arrive in the afternoon and visit the Peace Park and museum, which displays the remains of the only building that survived the destruction of August 1945.
Day 7 – Hiroshima
Today, make your way to the nearby island of Miyajima, home to a huge torii gate that sits just offshore. After an included lunch at the hotel, venture to the historic Shukkeien Japanese Garden which you can explore before having the rest of the afternoon at leisure in the city.
Day 8 – Kyoto
Leaving Hiroshima, journey to the old imperial capital of Kyoto. En route, visit the superb Korakuen gardens at Okayama.
Day 9 – Kyoto
Today, you’ll get the chance to see the amazing Sagano Bamboo Grove, in the city’s Arashiyama district. You’ll also get the chance to visit the Sogenchi Garden at the Tenryu-ji Temple, followed by the more modern garden at Murin-an. Later on in the day, experience a traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony.
Day 10 – Nara
Start the day with a visit to the famous Fushimi Inari shine and the Todai-ji temple. Here you’ll also find the Isuien Japanese Garden.
Day 11 – Nijo Castle
Visit another of Kyoto’s iconic sites, Nijo Caslte. You’ll also take an orientation walkng tour through the Gion district, full of traditional wooden houses and restaurants. After, enjoy the charming garden of the Heian Jingu Shrine.
Day 12 – Bullet Train to Tokyo
After a morning at leisure in Kyoto, take the bullet train to Tokyo for an overnight stay
Day 13 – Return flight
Take a morning flight to the UK, arriving later the same day
