Days 1-2: Saigon
Fly to Saigon, where you’ll be met at the airport by your local guide or national escort. Travel to the hotel and check in before the evening’s dinner and welcome briefing. Any time between arrival at the hotel and dinner is at leisure.

Day 3: Cu Chi & Saigon
This morning, visit the Cu Chi Tunnels to learn about the Viet Cong and their use of guerilla tactics during the Vietnam War. Head back to Saigon, stopping on the way for lunch at an organic farm. Once back in the city, explore the local culture and landmarks, admiring Notre-Dame Cathedral and the Central Post Office before spending some time at the War Remnants Museum.

Day 4: Saigon to Phan Thiet
Spend the morning exploring the Chinatown district, seeing See Cha Tam Church and the excellent Chua Ong Pagoda. You’ll also get the opportunity to learn about traditional herbal medicine and local beliefs. Then, head to the Reunification Palace and tour its rooms. After lunch, embark on your first journey on the Reunification Express, travelling to the coastal resort of Phan Thiet.

Day 5: To Dalat
The morning is at leisure to relax or enjoy the area’s white sand beaches. This afternoon drive into the Central Highland to Dalat, enjoying the views of tea-covered hills and mountains.

Day 6: Dalat
Begin your day with a visit to the ‘summer palace’ of King Bao Dai, the last king of Vietnam before taking a ride on a vintage open-air train to the village of Trai Mat. Enjoy a walk around the village before heading to Cau Dat Tea Hill, a hub of tea production.

Day 7: Dalat to Hoi An
In the morning, visit Domain de Marie Church and the Flower Gardens, with time to admiring the vibrant collections of flowers and topiary. After lunch, flying to Danang and transfer to the town of Hoi An.

Day 8: Hoi An
Head out on a walking tour of the Old Town, visiting the Chua Ong Chinese Pagoda, a 200-year old merchant house and the Japanese Covered Bridge. You’ll also get the chance to learn about the local practice of healing through the martial arts from a family who have been teaching it for generations and practice some basic steps under the guidance of a master. Finish the tour with a stop at a coffee stop before having the rest of the afternoon at leisure to explore independently.

Day 9: Tra Que Farm & Train to Hue
Travel into the surrounding countryside to visit a farming community where you’ll watch the farms at work and get the chance to try out some techniques yourself. Then, enjoy a hands-on cooking demonstration and make your lunch using ingredients from the garden. Drive back to Danang and board the Reunification Express, travelling along the section of the route which is considered one of the most beautiful in the world. Arrive in Hue, with time to relax in the hotel before dinner.

Day 10: Imperial Hue
Today, explore Hue’s imperial past, with visits to the Imperial Citadel and its Forbidden Purple City. Then, visit the tomb of the emperor Tu Duc. After lunch, head to an enamel workshop to learn about Phap Lam enamelled bronze, an art form the city was known for during the 18th century. Then, drive to a local home where you’ll learn how locals create Phap Lam cakes. Finish the day with a cruise along the Perfume River for an alternative view of Hue’s oldest Pagoda.

Day 11: Hue to Hanoi
After breakfast, fly to Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital city. Begin your exploration of the city at the Ethnology Museum. After lunch, cross over Hoan Kiem Lake to the Ngoc Son Temple before taking a cyclo tour of the Old Quarter. Finish the ride with the chance to taste some ‘egg coffee’.

Day 12: Ho Chi Minh Quarter
Today, carry on your exploration of Hanoi with a visit to the Ho Chi Minh Quarter. Visit the Humble House on Stilts and see the Mausoleum in Ba Dinh Square. Following lunch, visit the Temple of Literature, the city’s first university.

Day 13: Train to Ninh Binh
Start the morning with visit to the presidential palace, before visiting Hanoi’s last handmade paper-mâché mask workshop, meeting the family who are keeping the tradition alive. Take some time to explore the old quarter and visit the Kim Ngan Temple. Enjoy lunch before boarding the train to Ninh Binh.

Day 14: Ninh Binh
Drive out of the city to visit Hoa Lu. After lunch, continue to nearby Trang An, known for its natural beauty and scenic karst formations. Board a small boat and cruise down the peaceful river before returning to the hotel.

Days 15-16: Halong Bay
Drive to Halong Bay, where you’ll embark on a 2-night cruise. Enjoy opportunities to visit floating villages, hidden caves and sandy beaches as well as other activities like kayaking, swimming and simply relaxing on the beach. Spend two nights on board the ship.

Day 17: Train to Hanoi
Rise early for a Tai Chi lesson before cruising back to port, stopping en-route to visit one of the bay’s impressive caves. Disembark and head to Haiphong, a port city known for its French colonial-era architecture which you can admire during a short walking tour. Then, board the train back to Hanoi before the evening’s farewell dinner.

Transfer to the airport for your flight home.
