Embark on a captivating journey through the Rhine valley, encountering its most charming towns and cities amidst stunning scenery. This river journey highlights the finest of Switzerland, complemented by the scenic wonders of the Rhine and Moselle. Expect elegant cities, quaint timber-framed villages, stunning natural vistas, and the iconic Bernese Oberland.
Day 1: Arrival in Basel
Travel to Basel in Switzerland where you’ll transfer to the ship
Day 2: Lucerne & Bernese Oberland
Today you have the choice between a full day excursion to Lucerne and the Bernese Oberland, or a more leisurely guided tour of Lucerne and free afternoon in Basel. If you choose the full day excursion, you’ll tour Lucerne before driving through the Black Forest and taking a mountain railway up for brilliant views before returning to the ship.
Day 3: Breisach & the Black Forest or Alsace Wine Route
Enjoy a morning to relax onboard as the ship sails to the town of Breisach. On arrival, enjoy some free time to explore before lunch on board. In the afternoon, you can choose to visit Freiburg in the Black Forest or travel the Alsace wine route to visit Ribeauville and Riquewihr. Back on the ship, enjoy dinner before a performance by a violin soloist.
Day 4: Strasbourg
Arrive in the French town of Strasbourg and after breakfast stroll through the charming town. See the gothic Cathedral, the covered bridges, and the pastel-coloured houses of the Petite France quarter. During lunch, the ship begins an afternoon of scenic cruising towards Speyer.
Day 5: Speyer
Awake in Speyer, where you’ll have a guided tour of the city. See the Imperial Cathedral and the Gedächtniskirche before returning to the ship for lunch. After another afternoon of sailing, enjoy the ‘Captain’s Dinner’ featuring specialities from the region. During dinner, the ship will arrive in Rüdesheim, where you might want to take a stroll ashore this evening.
Day 6: Rüdesheim, Rhine Gorge and Koblenz
This morning spend some time exploring before choosing between two experiences: a visit to Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Cabinet or a ride on a cable car up to the Niederwald Museum. In the afternoon, sail through the Rhine Gorge, sailing through the Boppard Bend before arriving in Koblenz
Day 7: Koblenz
Discover Koblenz’s historic buildings on this morning’s guided tour before enjoying lunch as the ship begins sailing to Cologne.
Day 8: Free day in Cologne
After a laidback breakfast, the rest o the day is free to explore more Cologne at your own pace.
Day 9: Cochem
The ship departs Cologne today, and the morning sailing gives you time to relax on board and make the most of the ship’s facilities. After lunch, dock in Cochem for an afternoon guided tour. Explore the narrow streets, quirky shops and same the local Riesling. Back onboard this evening, enjoy another delicious meal accompanied by a live folk music performance.
Day 10: Trier
Sail further along the Moselle and arrive in the town of Zell. From here, drive to Trier for an afternoon exploring with a local expert to see its Roman ruins. Return to the ship, which is docked in Bernkastel.
Day 11: Bernkastel
Following breakfast, meet the local expert for a tour of Bernkastel, visiting the famous Pointed House. Those who are more active also have the option to visit Landshut Castle to see the ruins and enjoy the views over the valley and town before. Return to the ship for lunch before another afternoon of sailing.
Day 12: Koblenz & Boppard
Arrive in Koblenz early this morning. The city is the perfect place to spend the morning wondering, exploring historic squares and perhaps visiting one of the traditional cafes. After lunch, the ship brings you to Boppard, a picturesque town known as the ‘pearl of the Rhine’. Take a guided tour, seeing its characterful buildings and preserved walls.
Day 13: Rhine Gorge and Rudesheim
Cruise back through the world-famous Rhine Gorge and return to Rüdesheim, where you’ll have a guided tour followed by free time. In the evening, enjoy a ‘Chef’s Dinner’.
Day 14: Cologne
Leave Rudesheim early this morning and sail downstream, passing the town of Linz and the railway at Remagen. Not long after, the ship arrives in Cologne near the dual-spired cathedral. After lunch, join a local guide for a tour of the city, before you have time to yourself to explore. Enjoy a final dinner onboard the ship, take part in a presentation and Q&A session from the Lindt Chocolate Museum, with a chance to sample its world famous products.
Day 15: Return home
