Experience the breathtaking diversity of Portugal’s landscapes and immerse yourself in well-preserved medieval towns with cobblestone streets steeped in history. Explore Lisbon and Porto through guided tours and delve into the countryside along the River Douro, uncovering sites of historical and religious significance.
Day 1: Arrival in Lisbon
Fly to Lisbon, transferring to your hotel upon arrival. The rest of the day is free for you to spend as you wish, with your Tour Manager on hand if you want to begin exploring
Day 2: Lisbon
Begin the day with a guided tour of the city’s highlights, including the Monument to the Discoveries, the Belem Tower and the Monastery of Jerónimos. You’ll also see Alfama, the Moorish quarter, and the garden at São Pedro de Alcântara. At the end of the tour, enjoy a Signature Experience (See Signature Tours for more information). After an afternoon at leisure head to a traditional restaurant for your next Signature Experience.
Day 3: Free day in Lisbon
Spend an entire in Lisbon at leisure, giving you the opportunity to explore more of the city or perhaps head to one of the nearby beaches.
Day 4: Fatima & Coimbra
This morning, leave Lisbon and drive to Fatima, where you’ll visit the Sanctuary of Our Lady Fatima. You’ll then continue onto Coimbra, famous for its university which you’ll visit this afternoon, having the chance to take in the stunning views and the magnificent library. Later in the afternoon, drive to Porto.
Day 5: Porto
After breakfast, go on a tour of Porto’s major sights, experiencing the Praca da Ribeira square, the Dom Luis bridge and the medieval quarter. In the afternoon, head to one of the city’s port lodges for a Signature Experience (See Signature Tours for more information). Later, you’re free to explore at leisure
Day 6: Porto boat cruise
See Porto from another angle this morning as you cruise down the Douro by boat. After the cruise, the afternoon is free for you to explore Porto further
Day 7: The Douro Valley
Leave Porto behind and drive into the scenic Douro Valley. Spend a day exploring at a relaxed pace before arriving at Pinhão, a small town in the heart of the port producing region. Here, you’ll visit one of the local Quintas and sample some of the wine grown nearby.
Day 8: Óbidos & Cascais
Drive to Óbidos this morning, with some time in the town to explore its maze of narrow streets and whitewashed houses. Continue onto Cascais where you’ll check into your hotel, converted from historic buildings.
Day 9: Sintra & Cabo da Roca
Head to the town of Sintra, where you’ll visit the famous Royal Palace, now a museum. Then you’ll see the Pena Palace and its surrounding park. Before returning to Cascais, drive to Cabo de Roca, the most westerly point of mainland Europe to take in the views of the coastline and cliffs. Return to the hotel on a panoramic drive via Guincho Beach.
Day 10: Free day in Cascais
Today is free to explore Casais at leisure, whether you want to see its mansions or its citadel or take the walk to nearby São João do Estoril to see the lighthouse and fort. In the evening, enjoy your last Signature Experience (See Signature Tours for more information).
Day 11: Return home
Transfer to the airport for your return flight home
This Signature Tour includes everything from the Classic Tour as well as the following:
Day 2:
Finish off your guided tour of Lisbon with a visit to a traditional bakery to sample the famous Pastel de Nata, accompanied by a glass of port. In the evening, experience a Fado performance before having dinner at a traditional restaurant, enjoying local dishes.
Day 5:
Enjoy the VIP treatment on your visit to Taylors Port Wine Lodge, where you’ll try a selection of wines accompanied by a selection of local delicacies.
Day 10:
On the last evening of the tour, visit a local restaurant and enjoy meal full of regional productions and traditional Portuguese cuisine.
Plus, enjoy the more exclusive atmosphere of travelling in a small group of 25 or fewer guests.
