Follow in the footsteps of some of history’s greatest composers – Strauss, Mozart, Beethoven, Hayden and more – on a musical journey along the Danube.
Day 1: Arrival in Budapest
Following your arrival in Budapest, transfer via coach to luxury cruise ship, with the remainder of the day free for you to familiarise yourself with your home for the next seven nights.
Day 2: Esztergom
Begin the day in Esztergom – one of the oldest cities in the country. Visit the iconic basilica whilst on a guided tour of the city along with other highlights. Return to the ship for lunch and an afternoon of sailing.
Day 3: Bratislava
Immerse yourself in the wonders of Slovakia’s capital city while on a guided tour of the city’s highlights during which you’ll find out more about the famous composers who performed here. End with a visit at the Primate’s Palace*, where you’ll enjoy an enchanting classical music performance. In the afternoon, continue cruising into Lower Austria towards Dürnstein
Day 4: Dürnstein & Melk
The journey continues to Dürnstein for a guided walking tour in the morning, seeing the castle where Richard the Lionheart was once imprisoned. In the afternoon, visit the Melk Abbey, a Benedictine monastery.
Day 5: Salzburg
Explore Salzburg’s UNESCO-listed old town and learn about Mozart’s relationship with the city as you embark on a guided tour. Towards the end of the tour, enjoy a classical piano concert. Following this performance, head back to your cruise ship for an overnight sailing to Vienna.
Day 6: Vienna
With a local guide, explore Vienna’s landmarks like Saint Stephen’s Cathedral, the Hofburg Palace, and sites tied to legendary composers from Mozart to Strauss. Later, visit the world-famous Vienna Boys Choir for behind-the-scenes and to look in on their rehearsal. The afternoon is yours to explore the city independently. As evening falls, enjoy the Chef’s Dinner, followed by a classical string recital on board provides the perfect finale to the day.
Day 7: Budapest
Enjoy a relaxing morning cruising through Hungary’s tranquil countryside before arriving in Budapest. A panoramic tour reveals its rich history, with the option to visit the innovative House of Music or the renowned Museum of Fine Arts. The day ends with a vibrant Hungarian folklore show over dinner, featuring traditional music, dance, and costumes.
Day 8: Return home
Head back to the airport for the return flight to the UK.
*(The Palace is still an official government building; in the event for an emergency meeting, the concert with be held in the equally beautiful Moyzes Hall).
