Destinations in the Rhone River

Lyon

The third largest city in France, Lyon serves as the seat of an archbishop who holds the title Primate of the Gauls due to the city being the capital of the ancient people. The city is recognised for its outstanding cuisine and culture, as well as historical landmarks such as the Place des Terreaux with the ‘Fontaine Bartholdi and Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière. A short walking tour is highly recommended to really experience all the amazing sites that Lyon has to offer.

Avignon

A historical city, between 1309 and 1377 Avignon served as the residence of seven successive popes and the city had remained in Papal control until 1791 when during the French Revolution it became part of France, giving the city its nickname The City-State of Popes. Key landmarks include The Pont d’Avignon, the Palais des Papes and Avignon Cathedral. A guided tour of Avignon helps to bring this medieval city to life with the help of local experts with wine tasting also being popular.

Les Baux-de-Provence

The mountains around Les Baux have always made it an attractive location for humans, with traces of habitation going back as far as 6000 BCE. In more modern history, the Prince’s of Monaco have carried the title Marquis of Baux since the 17th Century. The quarry of lights, Carrieres de Lumieres and the ancient village itself, with 22 architectural treasures classified as historical monuments making a guided tour highly recommendable.
