This tour explores the breathtaking Lake Maggiore, spanning Italy and Switzerland, along with the equally stunning Lake Como and the lesser known yet enchanting Lake Orta. The backdrop of the majestic Alps provides some of the world’s most remarkable mountain scenery during the Swiss portion of the journey, featuring dramatic Zermatt nestled at the base of the iconic Matterhorn peak. The tour also encompasses charming hidden valleys, cascading glacier streams, and quintessential chalet landscapes, creating a truly inspiring travel experience.

Day 1 – Arrival in Baveno
Arrive at the airport for your flight to Italy. Transfer by coach by Baveno on the shores of Lake Maggiore
Day 2 – Lake Maggiore & Borromean Islands
Take a relaxing cruise across the lake to the beautiful Borromean Islands. The first port of call is at Isola Bella, home to a stunning palazzo and gardens. You’ll enjoy a guided tour before cruising to Isola dei Pescatori. Here, you’ll call at a small fishing village. Spend some time having lunch at leisure and wandering the streets before heading back to Baveno
Day 3 – Cannobio & Villa Taranto
Start this morning with a private boat ride to Cannobio, the last town before the Swiss border. Spend a couple of hours here before driving to Villa Taranto. Here you’ll see the marvellous gardens here, home to almost 20,000 plants.
Day 4 – Lake Como
This morning, explore Lake Como. The town is known for its imposing cathedral, delightful parks and the majestic Villa Olmo. During your free time today, you could take the funicular railway up the hill to Brunate.
Day 5 – Free day
An entire day at leisure to relax or explore the nearby resort of Stresa.
Day 6 – Zermatt & the Matterhorn
Cross the border into Switzerland and visit the iconic village of Zermatt. Take the Simplon Pass, and ancient route through the mountains that crosses towering viaducts and passes tumbling waterfalls. Upon arrival, you’ll be able to see the awe-inspiring Matterhorn.
Day 7 – Lake Orta
See one of the prettiest of the lakes, Orta. Visit the romantic lakeside village of Orta San Giulio. As you walk down pebbly lanes, you find picturesque medieval buildings and traditional shops. A boat trip takes you to the island of San Giulio, home to an enchanting Basilica.
Before returning to the hotel, visit Arona on Lake Maggiore’s southern end. Here you’ll view the monumental stature of San Carlo Borromeo, Archbishop of Milan, once the world’s tallest bronze statue.
Day 8 – Return home
Transfer to the airport for your flight home.
Hotel Simplon, Baveno
The classic Hotel Simplon is set in its own centuries-old parkland. The rooms are decorated to a high standard and all feature parquet flooring and an en suite bathroom, air-conditioning, complimentary Wi-Fi, a safe, TV and minibar (local charges apply).
UK Citizens do not require a visa to enter Italy or Switzerland however must have a valid passport.
