Embark on a one-of-a-kind culinary journey on both land and sea. Enjoy delicious meals and learn about Sami culture and cuisine as you sail from Bergen to Stamsund. Along the way you’ll also learn about the Feddie Ocean Distillery and try Hurtigruten’s own sea-age sparkling wine. Then, head ashore to meet some of the farmers and brewers who have been working with Hurtigruten, helping them to reduce food waste as well as producing the food served on their ships.
Day 1: Bergen
Make your own way to Bergen. Head to the Hurtigruten terminal to board the ship. As you’re boarding, you can look forward to a sail-away toast and a platter of shellfish. The ship begins sailing this evening.
Day 2: Spirit of the seas
After breakfast, you’ll get the chance to learn about and try Norwegian bacalao on deck. This salted cod is a specialty, traditional dried out on rocks along the shore. The ship arrives in Ålesund. On board, you’ll get to taste some of the products from Feddie Ocean Distillery, run by women on the island of Fedje. Later, enjoy a five-course dinner paired with selected wines, ciders and beers.
Day 3: A paradise of tastes
Sailing through Trondelag, today’s lunch is inspired by this fertile area which is known for its quality ingredients. Afterwards, learn about Sami cooking from one of Hurtigruten’s top chefs and their Sami Culinary Ambassador before trying the cuisine during tonight’s four course dinner. But before that, enjoy a delightful afternoon tea, paired with Hurtigruten’s own Havets Bobler sparkling wine, aged at the bottom of a fjord in the Arctic.
Day 4: Back to the Land
Today you’ll disembark the ship, heading off to the Lofoten Islands where you’ll be staying on a unique farm, Myklevik Gard. The owners have created an ecological and biodynamic farm and help Hurtigruten with their journey to zero waste by turning their excess food into compost. After touring the land, you’ll sit down to a family meal before heading to your accommodation in Stamsund.
Day 5: Ocean superfood & a gourmet farm
Today, visit Lofoten Seaweed, where you’ll learn about how the company became a supplier of seaweed based products to restaurants across Europe before getting creative, either having a go foraging or preparing some on land. Then you’ll enjoy a seaweed inspired lunch. Afterwards, travel to Kvitnes Gard, a peaceful farm where you’ll stay for the night. Take a guided tour before enjoying a 20-course meal with a full drinks package.
Day 6: Spirit of the seas & a surprise
The day features a visit to Aurora Spirit, the world’s northernmost whisky distillery, where you’ll tour the facility, learn Viking drinking traditions, and sample premium Arctic inspired spirits. A “surprise from the sea” precedes a three-course dinner with whisky pairings, followed by an overnight stay in stylish shoreside cabins amid the stunning Lyngen Alps.
Day 7: Beer and cheer
This morning, visit Mack, a family-run distillery founded in 1877 who have been working with Hurtigruten for 127 years. Get a tour of the brewery and learn about their history before tasting some beers. Enjoy a sandwich lunch showcase two types of signature bread.
