Start your journey in Norway’s capital, Oslo, riding the renowned Flåm Railway. Join The Coastal Express – North to reach the tranquil town of Kirkenes. From there, head south into Finnish Lapland to view the night sky from a glass igloo, explore the scenic Finnish Lakeland with its charming log accommodations, and conclude with a visit to Finland’s capital, Helsinki.
Day 1: Arrive in Oslo
On arrival into Oslo, make your own way the hotel before having the rest of the day at leisure. In the evening, join the rest of the group for dinner and to meet your guide.
Day 2: Discover Oslo
After a relaxed breakfast, head out on a tour of Oslo, visiting some of its highlights including the Vigeland Sculpture Park, Historical Museum, the Opera House and the Holmenkollen Ski Jump.
Day 3: Norway in a nutshell
This morning, begin your ‘Norway In a Nutshell’ tour, travelling by train to Myrdal where you’ll board the famous Flåm Railway. Enjoy spectacular views all the way to the village of Flåm where you’ll stay overnight.
Day 4: Train to Bergen
Take the ferry to Gudvangen, passing through Nærøyfjord. Continue by coach to Voss where you’ll board the train to Bergen, where the rest of the day is at leisure.
Day 5: Bergen & The Coastal Express
Take a walking tour of Bergen, including the colourful Bryggen district as well as St Mary’s Church and Håkon’s Hall. Later on, head to Troldhaugen, the home of composer Edvard Grieg. Your tour ends at the pier where you can relax in the exclusive guest lounge before boarding your coastal cruise
Day 6: Ålesund
After sailing through the Nordfjord in the early morning, arrive in the picturesque town of Ålesund. You’ll have most of the day to explore, so why not head to Mount Askla for panoramic views or to the Atlanterhavsparken, a large saltwater aquarium. Leaving Alesund, head to Molde, where you can enjoy an amazing view of 222 mountain peaks across the fjord.
Day 7: Trondheim
You’ll arrive early in the morning in Trondheim, with plenty of time to explore independently or join one of the option excursions available. Visit the Nidaros Cathedral, famous for its Gothic style and head to the Gamle Bybro bridge and the Hanseatic district of Bakklandet. In the afternoon, sail north towards Rørvik
Day 8: Into the Arctic
Cross the Arctic Circle early this morning as you sail to Bodø. From here, continue into the Lofoten archipelago and visit Stamsund, home to one of the area’s largest fishing fleets. In the evening, sail to Svolvær.
Day 9: Tromsø
Sail to the Arctic capital of Tromsø where you’ll have four hours to explore the city or to join an optional excursion. In the city you’ll find Polaria, a centre showcasing environmental research, numerous cafes, and restaurants as well as the iconic Arctic Cathedral. Leaving in the early evening, sail to the trading post of Skjervøy, passing the Lyngen Alps on the way.
Day 10: Honningsvåg
You’ll make brief stops in Hammerfest and Havøysund this morning, before arriving in Honnigsvåg, the portal to the North Cape. From here you can join an optional excursion to the North Cape Monument. Later in the day, the ship continues north passing Kjøllefjord, where you can spot Finnkirka, an ancient once used by the indigenous Sámi.
Day 11: Kirkenes & Saariselkä
Your coastal voyage comes to an end today as you arrive in Kirkenes. Disembarking the ship, you’ll pass through the town before driving across the border into Finland. Continue through Lapland to the village of Inari, an area famous for its large Sámi population. Visit the Siida Sámi museum to learn more about the rich culture before enjoying lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, continue to the small skiing village of Saariselkä
Day 12: Reindeer Safari
Today is at leisure to explore the village or join one of the optional excursions. In the evening, enjoy a reindeer safari. Travel to a local reindeer farm and meet a local family, from whom you’ll learn more about the reindeers before enjoying some coffee in an idyllic Lappish cottage. If the weather is suitable, you will also enjoy a sleigh ride.
Day 13: Santa Claus Village
Travel this morning to Rovaniemi, stopping at Sodankylä Old Church. Experience Santa Claus Village, a Christmas-themed Park where you can see herds of Reindeer and even meet Santa himself. In the evening, check into an Arctic snowhotel in Sinettä, where you can enjoy the spa and sauna. Enjoy dinner at the hotel before spending the night in a toasty glass igloo with a 360° glass roof, perfect for looking out for the Northern lights
Day 14: Rovaniemi
Transfer to your hotel in Rovaniemi. In the afternoon, take a tour of a husky dog kennel and meet the huskies. Enjoy lunch at the kennel and learn about the dogs and their training. You can then enjoy a husky drawn cart or sleigh ride before sitting down for a hot drink.
Day 15: Day at leisure
After breakfast, you’ll have the whole day at leisure to explore more of Rovaniemi
Day 16: Helsinki
Today, leave Rovaniemi by train to reach Helsinki, Finland’s capital. Arriving in the afternoon, the rest of the day is at leisure for you to explore the city.
Day 17: Helsinki
After breakfast at the hotel, your adventure comes to an end.
