Beginning in Oslo, this 5-day adventure gives you the chance to witness the beauty of both Norway’s mountain plateaus and coast. You’ll travel on the Dovre Line to Trondheim, where you’ll board the Coastal Express to Bergen. Then, take the famous Bergensbanen, one of the most scenic rail journeys in the world.
Day 1: Arrive in Oslo
Arrive in Oslo and check into your hotel. The rest of the day is free to explore independently
Day 2: Dovre Line to Trondheim
Travel by train on the 100 year old Dovre Line, through eastern Norway to Trondheim. The 6 hour 30 minute journey takes you along the edge of Mjøsa, the country’s largest lake and through the Dovrefjell mountain plateau. When you arrive in Trondheim, check in to your hotel and then head out to explore the city.
Day 3: Sail the Coastal Express
Board the Hurtigruten Coastal Express, which departs at 09:30. You’ll sail the last two days of the famous Coastal route. In the afternoon, dock in Kristiansund for an hour, where you can join an optional excursion or explore independently. Later in the evening, stop in Molde for half an hour, enjoying views of the Romsdal Alps. Overnight, the ship will make two more stops.
Day 4: Disembark in Bergen
This morning, enjoy beautiful views of the coastline as you sail towards Bergen, passing Måløy, docking in Florø and crossing the mouth of the Sognefjord. Disembark the ship in Bergen this afternoon, with the rest of the day free to explore.
Day 5: Travel the Bergen Line to Oslo
Travel back to Oslo today, taking the Bergen Line, one of the most scenic train journeys in the world. The 7 hour journey takes you through Voss and Hardangervidda National Park. Your trip ends on arrival back in Oslo.
