Beginning in the Arctic town of Kirkenes, set sail on a journey southward through the stunning landscapes of Northern Norway. You’ll take in the breathtaking views of Senja, one of Norway’s most beautiful islands. The adventure continues as we traverse the awe-inspiring Vesterålen and Lofoten islands, followed by a scenic route along the Helgeland Coast with its impressive mountain ranges and intricate network of islands. The voyage concludes in the charming city of Bergen.
Day 1: All aboard in Kirkenes
Your coastal journey begins in the Arctic town of Kirkenes, just miles from the Norwegian border. Depending on the time of your arrival, you may wish to explore the town, visiting the Varanger Museum. The ship leaves Kirkenes and sails to Vardø, home to the Vardøhus Fortress. Continue down the coast, passing Båtsfjord and Berlevåg.
Day 2: Hammerfest
After two short stops this morning, the ship arrives in Hammerfest. With more time in port, you’ll have the chance to see the Meridian Column, shop for souvenirs or perhaps head to Mount Salen to get brilliant views of the town. Continue south towards Tromsø. In the winter, you might be able to spot orcs and humpback whales that come here to feed on herring. The ship docks in Tromsø just before midnight, so during the summer, you can stroll around the still bustling sitting in the midnight sun
Day 3: Svolvær
Spend today exploring the Lofoten and Vesterålen archipelagos. Make some small stops in the morning, including Harstad, home to the Trondenes Church and Risøyhamn, the small port of call on the coastal route. In the afternoon, you’ll reach Stokmarknes, where Captain Richard With began the Coastal Express over 130 years ago. Here you can visit Hurtigrutemuseet and learn more about the company’s legacy. Sail along Raftsund before potentially heading into Trollfjord (weather permitting). Then, travel to Svolvær and then onwards to Stamsund, passing the Lofoten Wall.
Day 4: Brønnøysund
Cross over the Arctic Circle just after breakfast as you sail to Sandnessjøen, the gateway to the Helgeland Coast. As the ship continues to Brønnøysund, enjoy stunning views of the Seven Sisters Mountain range and Torghatten Mountain. Arriving in port mid-afternoon, explore the town before reboarding to sail to Rørvik.
Day 5: Trondheim
Awake in the city of Trondheim, enjoying some time to explore the city. Then sail to Kristiansund to explore the old town and the port. The last stop today is in Molde, known as the ‘City of Roses’, which should be in bloom in the summer.
Day 6: Bergen
This morning, you’ll get the chance to see Nordfjord, under mainland Europe’s largest glacier. After a brief stop in Florø, sail past Stabben Lighthouse and the mouth of Sognefjord, before navigating down Hjeltefjord to Bergen. Here, you’ll disembark the ship.
