MS Kong Harald at a glance:
Year Built: 1993
Year Refurbished: 2016/2023
Cabins: 223
Restaurants: 4
Facilities: Lounge, sauna, gym, bar
Named after Norway’s King Harald V, a skilled sailor in his own right, the MS Kong Harald operates along Norway’s coastline as part of the Hurtigruten Coastal Voyage Fleet.
Refurbished in 2016, the ship has a modern Arctic-inspired interior with three restaurants, the Multe bakery and ice cream bar, a sauna, fitness room, two hot tubs, and a cozy bar at the front. The large compass area includes the reception, Coastal Experience Team, conference room, and shop. The top deck features a sun deck, observation saloon, and panorama lounge, offering spectacular coastal views.
Recently the MS Kong Harald underwent an upgrade to become the 2nd hybrid ship in the fleet. With brand new engines and large battery packs, the ships fuel consumption has fallen by 25%. It also boasts advanced wastewater treatment and as well as new catalytic reduction technology, which has cut NOx emissions by up to 80%. As part of the upgrade, cabins on decks 2 & 3 were refurbished.
Cabins onboard the MS Kong Harald are organised into four categories: Polar Inside, Polar Outside or Arctic Superior. They also have several expedition suites.
Please note that all cabins have individual specifications.
Polar Inside
These cosy cabins can be found across all decks onboard. All cabins in the category have showers. Most of the cabins have twins’ beds, one of which is a sofa bed. A select number of the cabins feature upper and lower berth.
Polar Outside
Located on all decks, these are available in the same configuration as polar inside cabins but offer windows or portholes. Please note that some portholes and windows may have limited or obstructed views. Upper deck polar outside cabins may feature tea/coffee making facilities.
Arctic Superior
Arctic Superior Cabins can be found on the two upper decks. All arctic superior cabins are new refurbished and feature queen beds, a TV and tea/coffee making facilities.
Expedition Suites
Expedition suites are situated on the upper deck of the ship. They feature either one or two rooms, along with a separate seating area.
Torget
MS Kong Harald’s main restaurant, Torget offers a selection of dishes for all three meals.
Kysten
An a la carte restaurant, the dishes here are inspired by ingredients found along the coast. Dining is at an extra cost. Those staying in Arctic Superior Cabins or expedition suites can upgrade and dine here throughout their voyage.
Brygga
This onboard bistro serves quick meals, such as salads, sandwiches and pizzas. There is also a selection of sweet treats.
Multe
At Multe, you can enjoy open sandwiches (call smørbrød) or try ice cream from Lofoten including brown cheese flavour.
