MS Polarlys at a glance:
Year built: 1996
Year refurbished: 2016/2023
Cabins: 216
Restaurants: 3
Facilities: Sauna, jacuzzi, lounge, bar
The vessel’s name, “Polarlys,” means “Polar Lights” in Norwegian, referring to the Northern Lights. Built in 1996, MS Polarlys was christened by Queen Sonja of Norway. It was remodelled in 2016 with a modern, Arctic-inspired interior, and the cabins on decks 2 and 3 were upgraded in 2023.
The ship features three restaurants, the Multe bakery and ice cream bar, a sauna, a fitness room, and two hot tubs on deck. You can enjoy a drink at the bar in the panorama lounge.
The vessel also includes a large compass area with the reception, Coastal Experience Team, a conference room, and a shop. The top deck boasts a sun deck, observation saloon, and panorama lounge, offering stunning views of the coastal scenery.
Cabins onboard the MS Polarlys are organised into four categories: Polar Inside, Polar Outside or Arctic Superior. They also have several expedition suites.
Please note that all cabins have individual specifications.
Polar Inside
These cosy cabins can be found across all decks onboard and have a maximum capacity of 2 travellers. All cabins in the category have showers. Most of the cabins have twins’ beds, one of which is a sofa bed.
Polar Outside
Located on all decks, these have a maximum capacity of 3 travellers. Some of the polar outside cabins have double beds, with the rest having separate single beds. In both 2 & 3-person cabins, one of the single beds will convert to a sofa while 3 person cabins will have an upper berth. All cabins feature a window or porthole, though they may have a limited view.
Arctic Superior
On the upper and middle decks, you’ll find the Arctic superior cabins. Most of these cabins have double beds. All these cabins have a full view out of a window, as well as tea & coffee making facilities.
Expedition Suites
Expedition suites are situated on the upper deck of the ship. Mini suites can sleep between 2 and 4 people, using double beds. They also feature seating areas. The main suites on the upper deck have either one or two rooms. All suites have a tv, and great views.
Torget
MS Polarlys’ main restaurant serves all three daily meals. Breakfast and lunch are buffet-style, while dinner may be a set menu.
Brygga
This bistro offers fresh salads, sandwiches, and small dishes in an informal setting, perfect for a quick meal between excursions.
Kysten
An à la carte restaurant providing elegant meals with local ingredients like reindeer, seaweed, and kelp. Dining here incurs an extra cost, but it’s included for platinum upgrade guests.
Multe
This bakery serves open sandwiches, coffee, ice cream, and various sweet treats.
