From the Arctic Ocean and the Bering Sea in the north, to the Antarctic Ocean in the South, the Pacific Ocean is the largest on the Earth. Home to countless islands and exciting destinations, it’s the ideal place for a cruise. You can choose between the glacial wonders of Alaska or the tropical islands of the Galapagos. Alternatively, you can discover the ancient cultures of Peru and Chile, perhaps heading inland to visit the magnificent Machu Picchu
Northeast Pacific
The Northeast Pacific Ocean lies off the coasts of Alaska, Canada and the United States. Cruise along the Inside Passage, a 500-mile stretch of water which takes you past vast mountains and spectacular glaciers and the islands off British Columbia.
Galapagos
Located in the South Pacific, these islands lie off the coast of Ecuador and are a designated National Park. Celebrated for their remarkable biodiversity, the Galápagos Islands host a diverse array of plant and animal species found nowhere else on the planet. As you explore these volcanic islands, you’ll encounter the iconic Galápagos Giant Tortoises, marine iguanas, blue-footed boobies, and other unique species.
Southeast Pacific
South America’s extraordinary diversity in landscapes, wildlife, and history makes it a vibrant and thrilling region to explore. Explore the continent’s west coast, from Panama and its famous canal to the stunning Chilean Fjords. If you’re feeling adventurous, you could even venture away from the coast to visit the immense Lake Titicaca or the ancient ruins of Machu Picchu.
The ideal time of the year to visit the Pacific Ocean depends on whether you’re heading for the North, the South or the Galapagos.
If you’re heading for the Northeast Pacific the best time to go is May through to September. In Alaska, this the best opportunity for spotting wildlife, or taking part in offshore sightseeing such as whale watching. This is also a great time to visit British Columbia, including Vancouver and the Inside Passage
The best time to visit the Galapagos Islands depends on the wildlife you wish to see. For instance, the waved albatross is only visible from April to November. Regarding the climate, the Galapagos experience two primary seasons: cool and dry (June to November) and warm and wet (December to May). August and September bring the coolest temperatures and the roughest seas, but many cruises still operate during this period The warmer season is ideal for diving, as the waters are calmer, and visibility is better. Additionally, you’ll encounter more sea turtles.
