From the mystical lands of the Incas to the enthralling islands of the Galapagos, this tour brings together two legendary destinations. Explore Peru by land, ticking off Machu Picchu as you go, before cruising the Galapagos archipelago to see the wildlife that inspired a scientific revolution.

Day 1: Fly to Lima
Fly from the UK to Lima. On arrival, transfer to the hotel before having the rest of the day free to relax or start exploring.

Day 2: Travel to Cusco
This morning, fly to the city of Cusco and transfer to the Sacred Valley. Spend the afternoon in Manos de la Comunidad. Here you’ll get the chance to learn about some of the region’s traditional crafts such as weaving and pottery making from local artisans. Later on, make your way to Pisac to explore its hilltop citadel and market.

Day 3: Explore the Sacred Valley
Head to Moray, where you’ll find circular terraces carved by the Incas before continuing to Maras to discover the old evaporation ponds used to harvest salt. In the afternoon, visit the Sanctuario de Colibries, a sanctuary in the cloud forest which shelters hummingbirds as well as other native birds. Continue to Ollantaytambo to explore its preserved Incan houses and fortress.

Day 4: Train to Machu Picchu
Board the panoramic expedition train to Aguas Calientes this morning. On arrival, transfer to a bus for a journey up to the ruins of Machu Picchu which you’ll have plenty of time to explore.

Day 5: To Cusco
Enjoy a relaxed morning in Aguas Calientes before taking a scenic journey back to Ollantaytambo on the Vistadome Train. From here, transfer to Cusco.

Day 6: Discover Cusco
Spend the day exploring the city, starting at Sacsayhuaman, the remains of a colossal citadel. Then, continue to the Cristo Blanco to enjoy the panoramic views before visiting the San Pedro market. Head back to the city centre to explore Qoricancha and Cusco Cathedral.

Day 7: Fly to Lima
This morning, take a flight to Lima. Later in the day, take a tour of the city, where you’ll visit the Plaza Mayor, home to impressive colonial buildings and the Larco Museum, which houses fascination Pre-Columbian artifacts.

Day 8: Fly to Quito
Today, take a flight to Ecuador’s capital, Quito.

Day 9: Explore Quito
Take a tour of the city, beginning at Independence Square. Here you can admire the La Compania Church before wander through San Francisco Square and trying some chocolate at a local shop. Then, head out of the city to the Middle of the World Monument where you can jump over the Equator.

Day 10: Board the MS Santa Cruz II
This morning, take a short flight to Baltra Island. On arrival, transfer to the port to board your expedition ship, the MS Santa Cruz II. As you settle in, the ship sails along the northern coast of Santa Cruz where you can head ashore to explore Cerro Dragon (Dragon Hill) on a walk.

Day 11: Cruise – Isabela & Fernandina
Begin at Punta Vicenta Roca, on the tip of Isabela Island. Here you’ll explore the coastline in a panga, accompanied by a naturalist who will tell you about the volcanic formations and colonies of birds. Then, continue to Fernandina where you’ll search the shore for sea lions and penguins.

Day 12: Cruise – Santa Cruz
Disembark on Santa Cruz today. Here you’ll visit the Charles Darwin Research Station where you can observe the giant tortoises and Darwin’s finches. Then, take a wander through a prickly pear cactus forest. The afternoon is free to spend as you wish.

Day 13: Cruise – Floreana Island
Hop aboard a panga for a cruise along the northern shore of Floreana Island to see Baroness Cave and Post Office Bay. You’ll then explore the waters off Champion Islet by either panga or glass-bottom boat. You may have the opportunity to snorkel here to get a closer look at the marine life. End the day at Cormorant Point where you can take a walk to see the birdlife.

Day 14: Cruise – Baltra Island
Enjoy a relaxing morning onboard the Santa Cruz II as it anchors at Baltra Island. In the afternoon, land at Las Bachas Beach on Santa Cruz where you can swim or snorkel from the beach.

Day 15: Cruise – Santiago Island
Spend the day exploring Santiago Island. In Bucaneer Cove, take part in some marina activities to get an up-close look at the rock formations. Later, head to Puerto Egas where you’ll take a guided excursion through a colony of fur seals or go snorkelling along the shoreline.

Day 16: Cruise – Rabida & Bartolome
This morning, take a panga ride around Rabida Island to see its sea lion colony. Then, cruise to Bartolome Island to enjoy its beaches and view Pinnacle Rock. Then, you can swim, snorkel or take a boat to the wildlife or take a walk to the island’s summit for breath-taking views.

Day 17: Cruise – Genovesa Island
Start the day with a short but steep climb up Prince Philip’s steps to the plateau atop Genovesa. From here you can observe the large colonies of boobies, frigatebirds and storm petrels. Then, take to the waters in a kayak before relaxing on the beach at Darwin Bay.

Day 18: Disembark the MS Santa Cruz II
Spend your final morning on the cruise on the north of Santa Cruz Island, where you’ll head into the highlands to see the giant tortoises roaming. Then, disembark the MS Santa Cruz II and transfer to Baltra Island for your flight to Quito.

Day 19: Fly to UK
Fly home to the UK from Quito, arriving the same or following day.
