Ultimate Norway at Christmas
Hurtigruten have been exploring Antarctica for over 20 years. And it’s not just Antarctica itself you’ll be exploring. Many of the voyages available sail to South Georgia and the Falkland Islands.
While sailing in the Antarctic with Hurtigruten, you’ll get the chance to spot abundant wildlife, from penguins and seals to seabirds and whales.
While there’s plenty to spot from the deck, you’ll be able to go on landings ashore with the Expedition Team. Plus, there’s a range of optional activities available including kayaking, snowshoeing and camping.
While they’re known for their polar expeditions, there are plenty of other worldwide destinations that Hurtigruten Expeditions can take you to.
Sail through the legendary Northwest Passage, explore Alaska and British Columbia’s rugged coast. In the Atlantic, you can discover the USA’s east coast or head further south to the islands of the Caribbean.
In the Pacific, the Galapagos Islands await you. Renowned for their exceptional biodiversity, an expedition cruise to these islands showcases the wide range of fauna and flora that can’t be found anywhere else in the world.
If you wish to stay closer to home, there are selection of expedition cruises to Europe and the British Isles.
Hurtigruten Arctic Expeditions take you to one or more of three beautiful destinations: Svalbard, Iceland and Greenland.
Sailing to Svalbard in the summer, you’ll find majestic fjords, colourful arctic fauna and the occasional polar bear. You can choose to focus on the main island of Spitsbergen or circumnavigate the whole archipelago.
The world’s largest island, Greenland offers 27,000 miles of coastline, home to multi-coloured coastal towns and sweeping fjords. On Hurtigruten expeditions you’ll get the chance to experience the culture and traditions of the locals as well as visiting the remote east coast which is home to the world’s largest national park.

Enjoy a variety of delicious dishes with breakfast, lunch and dinner included each day. During mealtimes, you can enjoy house wines, beer and soft drinks.

Daily Expeditions and Activities

Expedition Gear
Every single guest gets a polar expedition jacket, and backpack to use, as well as any other pieces of kit needed for exploring. In line with Hurtigruten’s ban on single-use plastics, you’ll also receive a re-useable water bottle. Plus, you’ll get to keep both the jacket and bottle to take home with you!
Science Centre
Get hands on with the interactive science programme on offer on all expedition cruises. Join the science team for lectures, contribute to important research and study samples under microscopes
Wi-Fi
Hurtigruten Expeditions have introduced Starlink to their fleet of ships, meaning you can keep in touch no matter where you’re exploring.
Professional Photography
Onboard each expedition ship, you’ll find a professional photographer ready to capture stunning images. Once you’ve returned home, you’ll receiver a digital album and summary video of your cruise.
Onboard a Hurtigruten Expedition, you’ll get the chance to take part in a range of projects as part of their Citizen Science Programme. Join expert researchers as they collect data and samples and get hands-on with learning about your destination of choice. In Antarctica, you might help collect water samples to test for Phytoplankton or upload your images of whales to help track them on their movements across the globe.
Each of the 6 ships in the expedition fleet has its own science center, where you use state-of-the-art technology to conduct experiments or learn about the local wildlife and plants. Plus, you’ll enjoy a series of lecture from the Science and Expedition Team about a range of topics.
As well as the daily activities and shore landings, there are more than 300 optional excursions available across all destinations that Hurtigruten sail to. If you’re looking to extend your time spent in new destinations, they also offer pre and post expedition extensions.
Sailing to four continents, Hurtigruten’s fleet of 6 expedition ships are well suited to exploration while modern facilities and comforts.
In the Arctic, you’ll find the MS Spitsbergen, named after Norway’s magnificent Svalbard Archipelago, which you can visit on a number of expedition cruises. If you’re sailing to Iceland and Greenland, you may find yourself aboard MS Maud.
In the Galapagos, you’ll sail aboard the MS Santa Cruz II, a small sized ship that offers a relaxed atmosphere and is perfect for exploring the beautiful islands.
Those heading south to Antarctic can experience Hurtigruten’s Hybrid ships, the MS Roald Amundsen and MS Fridtjjof Nansen. These state-of-the-art ships feature brand-new sustainable hybrid technology
The MS Fram sails year-round, spending the summer in the Arctic and the winter in Antarctica. Thanks to her smaller size, she’s the ideal ship for getting close to nature in these fantastic destinations.
