While onshore landings are included on all expedition cruses to Antarctica, there is also a selection of optional activities for those wanting to make the most of their time here.
Kayaking is a brilliant way to explorer the coastlines of Antarctica. As you silently glide along, you may spot seals, penguins and even whales.
For those wanting to explore on foot, both hiking and snowshoeing are offered. Though only available when the snow conditions allow, snowshoeing gives you the chance to reach places that are normally difficult to access. Hikes are led by the onboard Expedition Team, who use their extensive knowledge of the region to pick the best route to reach best viewpoints.
For the ultimate experience, put your name forward to take part in the overnight camp on the ice. On expedition cruises that call at the Falkland Islands, there’s a selection of optional excursions including an air tour and a visit the penguins at Volunteer Point.
All optional activities and excursions are at an extra cost.
While there is no shortage of activities to take part in during your expedition, you may wish to spend some more time getting to know your destination. Hurtigruten offer a selection of optional pre and post programmes that explore South America that can be added on to your Antarctica expedition (at an extra cost).
