Day 1: Fly to Tokyo
Overnight flight from London (regional connections available) to Tokyo Haneda airport

Day 2: Tokyo
Arrive and transfer to the Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa (or similar) for 3 nights.(No meals)
Day 3: Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park
Full-day excursion to the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park for views of Mount Fuji, a cruise on Lake Ashi and a ride on the Mount Komagatake Ropeway (cable car). Have a welcome lunch.

Day 4: Tokyo
Spend a full day touring Tokyo, visiting Asakusa Kannon Temple, the National Museum and the Meiji Shrine. Head to the Shunkaen Bonsai Museum to try shaping a tree

Day 5: Kanazawa
Morning departure by shinkansen (bullet train) to Kanazawa. Visit Kanazawa castle park and the Kenroku-en garden and the Nomura Samurai house. Visit a gold leaf workshop. Stay 2 nights at the Crowne Plaza ANA Kanazawa (or similar).(Breakfast and lunch)
Days 6: Kanazawa • Shirakawago
In the morning, head to Shirakawago to see the Unesco-listed gassho-zukuri houses and their unique architectural style. Later on, visit the Higashi-Chayamachi district and the Omicho market.

Days 7 & 8: Kyoto
Travel by express train to Kyoto. Visits include Nijo Castle, Nishiki market and WAK cultural centre. Here, in a townhouse known as a machiya, take part in a cooking class and traditional tea ceremony. The following day is free for you to explore Kyoto at your own pace. (Breakfast)
Day 9: Kyoto • Hiroshima
Morning visit to Kinkakuji temple, then Ryoanji temple, famous for its Zen rock garden. In the afternoon, tour the historic city of Nara, then continue to Osaka to catch the bullet train south to Hiroshima.

Day 10: Miyajima island • Hiroshima
Take the ferry over to Miyajima island to visit the Itsukushima shrine and see the Torii gate. Return to the mainland and take the train back to the city to visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and the Memorial Museum.

Day 11: Himeji • Tokyo
Board a bullet train for the journey north to Himeji city. Take a tour of Himeji castle. Afterwards, take a stroll in the Koko-en gardens, which consist of nine separate, walled gardens with ponds, waterfalls and a tea ceremony house. Enjoy a farewell lunch. Travel by train to Tokyo and stay 1 night at the Royal Park Haneda (or similar).

Day 12: Fly to London
Transfer to the airport for your flight to London, arriving later the same day.

Set in central Kanazawa next to the JR train station and the Ishikawa concert hall, the ANA Crowne Plaza Hotel Kanazawa is an ideal base to explore the city. Among the dining options is the Unkai restaurant, which serves wagyu steaks, is set on tatami mats and looks out over the manicured garden. Kaga Teppanyaki restaurant on the 19th floor has views out to the Sea of Japan.
The Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa is located at the top of Zakuro-zaka Street, just a 5-minute walk from the Takanawa exit of Shinagawa train station, and just three minutes to the Toei subway station. The hotel’s striking structure was designed by Togo Murano, one of Japan’s leading architects. With a range of leisure facilities, well-equipped rooms and Japanese, Chinese and western restaurants, the hotel makes a comfortable base from which to explore Tokyo.
The Hotel Granvia Hiroshima is a large property located in central Hiroshima, within 15 minutes walk of the Shukkei-en Japanese garden and the Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum. The hotel has excellent transport links, with connections to the JR Shinkansen train station as well as a bus stop just in front of the hotel for the Hiroshima Sightseeing Loop bus. Rooms are well equipped and contemporary in style, and there is a range of restaurants and bars on site.
The New Miyako Hotel has a prime location less than 5 minutes’ walk from Kyoto Station. The hotel offers a range of rooms and suites across three categories. Dining options include Japanese, Chinese and European buffet restaurants.
Please note that in Japan room sizes can be significantly smaller than in Europe.

Excursions on days 3 and 4 may be switched, subject to local conditions. Please note that travellers will need to pack an overnight bag for days 5–6 and 9–10, as main luggage will be transferred separately between hotels.
