This tour covers three of Japan’s capitals, both past and present. You’ll ride on a high speed bullet train past iconic Mt. Fuji, one of the most instantly recognisable places on the planet. You’ll have the option to stay at a typical Japanese inn, bathe in a hot spring, and see the spot where the first atom bomb was detonated. With longer stays in both Tokyo and Kyoto, you’ll have a unique opportunity to get right under the skin of this extraordinary country.
Day 1: Departure
You arrive at the airport for your overnight direct flight to Tokyo.
Day 2: Arrival In Tokyo
On arrival, transfer to the hotel. Perfectly located in the heart of Tokyo, close to the Japanese parliament, the nearest metro stop is just a couple of minutes’ walk allowing you to explore at ease.
Day 3: Tokyo
This morning, explore the city, starting at the famous Shinto Meiji shrine, dedicated to one of Japan’s past emperors. Then move on to some of Tokyo’s most renowned quarters, including Omotesando Street, Tokyo’s ‘Rodeo Drive’, full of luxury brand shops. Enjoy an included lunch before an afternoon at leisure.
Day 4: Tokyo
Today you’ll visit the Asakusa district, full of historical houses, before taking a boat to Ginza, one of the world’s most luxurious shopping destinations. You then have the afternoon free to explore the area or perhaps take the metro to the National Museum
Day 5: Mount Fuji & Hakone
Leave Tokyo behind today and drive to Mount Fuji. Visit Lake Kawaguchi for the chance to admire the views. Then head to the Kubota Itchiku Art Museum, admiring the work of silk dyeing. Head to Lake Ashi next for a cruise before checking into your hotel.
Day 6: Bullet Train
Hop onboard one of Japan’s famous bullet trains to reach Hiroshima. On arrival, visit the Peace Park and museum, which has includes the remains of the only building that survived the atomic bomb.
Day 7: Miyajima
Make your way to the island of Miyajima, famous for the torii gate that sits offshore. Explore the island by foot before returning to Hiroshima.
Day 8: Kyoto
Leaving Hiroshima by coach, head towards the old imperial capital of Kyoto. En route, visit the superb Korakuen garden at Okayama – built in 1700 and renowned as one of Japan’s most exquisite gardens.
Day 9: Kyoto & tea ceremony
Begin the day with a visit to the spectacular Golden Pavilion, a temple whose upper floors are covered in gold leaf. From here, head to the Arashiyama bamboo forest, walking along the path through bamboo that is up to 30ft high. In the centre of the city, you’ll find Nijo castle before finishing the day with a walk through Gion, the geisha district. Enjoy a traditional Japanese tea ceremony.
Day 10: Nara
Start the day by seeing the Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, famous for its thousands of red torii gates before travelling to Nara. Visit the amazing Todai-ji temple, the world’s largest wooden structure. Then, visit a museum where you’ll learn about Sake and enjoy a tasting.
Day 11: Free Day In Kyoto
You’re free today to explore and discover the many delights and attractions of Kyoto. There are still more enchanting temples to see – like the 15th century Silver Pavilion and the even older Eikando temple, marvels of architectural and garden design within an easy walk of each other along the charming Philosopher’s Path.
Day 12: Bullet Train
After a last free morning at leisure, take the bullet train to Tokyo staying overnight near the airport.
Day 13: Return Flight
Transfer to the hotel for your flight home.

Day 3:
Take a night tour of Shinjuku with a local guided, discovering Kabukicho and walking through Golden Gai which houses over 200 tiny bars, clubs and restaurants.
Day 7:
After visiting Miyajima, visit the Shukkeien Japanese Gardens which date back to 1620. Admire the series of miniaturised sceneries that resemble landscapes around Japan.
Plus, enjoy the more exclusive atmosphere of travelling in a small group of 25 or fewer guests.
