Day 1: Fly to Japan
Arrive at the airport for your overnight flight to Osaka
Day 2: Arrive in Kyoto
Arrive in Osaka and transfer to Kyoto and check in your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure
Day 3: Kyoto
After a relaxing morning in the hotel, spend the afternoon exploring the city with a local expert. The tour starts with the golden temple of Kinkakuji and the Nijo Castle. After, walk through Honmaru Gardens. Continue to the famous rock garden at Ryoan-ji. In the evening, take a fascinating walk around the Gion district
Day 4: The Bullet Train
Head to southeast Kyoto to discover the Fushimi Inari-Taisha Shrine, famed for its thousands of torii gates, before boarding a 2 hour bullet train towards Mount Fuji
Day 5: Mount Fuji
Spend a day around Mount Fuji, visit two of its 5 lakes. Start at Lake Yamanaka, the largest of the lakes before heading to Lake Kawaguchi. Visit the Ichiku Kubota Museum to learn more about kimonos before taking the Kachi Kachi ropeway to the summit of Mount Tenjo.
Day 6: Kamakura
Arrive in the small coastal town of Kamakura, home to a selection of shops specialising in local arts and crafts. Enjoy some free time to explore, perhaps taking time to visit the Great Buddha or the gardens of Hasedera. Continue onto Tokyo later in the afternoon to check into the hotel.
Day 7: Tokyo
Spend the day exploring Tokyo. Start with a tour of the city’s highlights including the Imperial Palace, the Shibuya crossing and the Sensoji in Asakusa.
Day 8: Free day in Tokyo
Explore the city at your leisure
Day 9: Return flight
Transfer to the airport for your flight home.
Day 10: Arrive home
Arrive back in the UK
The Hotel Higashiyama – 4*
Blending modern and traditional Japanese décor inspired by the calming flow of the Shirakawa River that runs nearby, creating a tranquil space that combines the essence of both Japanese and Western style. Fujisan Mishima Tokyu Hotel – 4*
Rooms at the hotel are compact but well-appointed with free wifi, air conditioning, kettles and TV. There is an on-site restaurant as well as an open-air rooftop bath with views of Mount Fuji.
Grand Nikko Tokyo Daiba – 4*
This hotel is in the Daiba district, with waterfront views of Tokyo Bay. On site you can pick between 6 restaurants for meals. The rooms here are equipped with a tv, safe, mini fridge and tea/coffee-making facilities
