Formerly the island of Ceylon, Sri Lanka has an abundance of natural treasures, historic towns and archaeological ruins for you to discover. The fabulous tour will take you on an exotic journey to the lesser-known sites in Northern, southern and central Sri Lanka. Accompanied by your Cox and Kings guide, you will travel each day to a new and exciting site or town, such as Nuwara Eliya, which is home to the famous tea plantations. Envisage yourself touring the beautiful villages of the south and visiting the stunning cave temples of Dambulla, where you will truly enjoy the full flavour of the rich diversity of this enchanting island.
Day 1: To Colombo
Overnight flight from London (regional connections available) to Colombo

Day 2: Colombo
Afternoon arrival and transfer to your hotel. This evening, enjoy a welcome dinner

Day 3: Dambulla
This morning, travel to Dambulla where you’ll stay for the next three nights.

Day 4: Anuradhapura & Mihintale
Drive to the ancient city of Anuradhapura. For 1,400 years this city was Sri Lanka’s capital and contains fabulous Buddhist shrines and relics. Afternoon visit to Mihintale, the birthplace of Buddhism in Sri Lanka.(Breakfast)
Day 5: Sigiriya & Polonnaruwa
Morning visit to the rock fortress town of Sigiriya. Continue to the 11th-century medieval capital of Polonnaruwa.(Breakfast)
Day 6: Dambulla to Kandy
Leave Dambulla and head south to Kandy. In the evening, watch a traditional dance performance before visiting the Temple of the Tooth for the evening puja ceremony.

Day 7: Kandy
Enjoy a morning tour of the Royal Botanical Gardens before an afternoon at leisure to explore independently or simply relax.

Day 8: To Nuwara Eliya
Board a train to Nanu Oya, admiring the scenery along the way. Arrive in Nuwara Eliya where you’ll visit a tea plantation.

Day 9: Horton Plains
Early morning visit to Horton Plains, situated on Sri Lanka’s highest plateau (this excursion involves a 2.5-hour walk*). The remainder of the day is at leisure.

Day 10: Ella to Yala
Visit the Rawana Ella Falls and the Buduruwagala statues before driving to Yala.

Day 11: Yala National Park
Morning wildlife safari in Yala National Park, keeping an eye out for elephants, leopards and sambar deer among other creatures. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner.

Day 12: Galle • Ahungalla
Head to Ahungalla today. En route, stop for a tour of Galle Fort as well as a visit to the Elephant Transit Home.

Day 14: To London
Transfer to Colombo and fly to London.

*Due to high altitude and uneven terrain the Horton Plains walk requires a good level of fitness, but there are multiple trail options. Visits to certain ancient monuments in the Cultural Triangle require steep climbing, including Sigiriya which has 1,200 steps divided amongst a number of staircases. Options and alternatives can be discussed with your local guide.
