Vietnam Trails is a 16-day adventure featuring many of Vietnam’s splendid places including the highlights of Hoi An, Halong Bay, Mekong Delta and the rice terraces of Sapa. Visitors of Vietnam will get to experience the appeal of a wonderful and fascinating country.

Day 1-2: Fly to Saigon
Fly overnight to Saigon, Vietnam’s most evocative and largest city. Depending on your time of arrival the rest of the day is yours to start soaking up the local culture.

Day 3: Discover Saigon
Contemplate the horrors of guerrilla warfare at the astonishing Cu Chi Tunnels afterwards returning to Saigon. Experience Vietnam’s colonial past at Notre Dame Cathedral and the Central Post Office. Also visit the Reunification Palace; and the chilling War Remnants Museum.

Day 4: Mekong Delta
Journey to Ben Tre to take a cruise on the Mekong. Paddle through the maze of palm-lined canals and get a glimpse of daily life on the Mekong Delta. Return to Saigon.

Day 5: Journey to Hoi An
Fly to Danang and transfer to Hoi An. In the afternoon, enjoy a walking tour of its historic streets, visiting an old merchant’s house, Quan Cong Temple, the Japanese Bridge, and the lively market. Stop at Reaching Out, a social enterprise craft workshop, to see artisans at work.
Day 6: Hoi An Cooking Class
Purchase fresh ingredients at the market for a cookery class at a local restaurant, consuming your creations for lunch. Enjoy your afternoon at leisure to further explore this delightful town.

Day 7: Hoi An
Enjoy a day at leisure to further explore this idyllic town. Perhaps savour a relaxing coffee or pop into the town for a stroll.

Day 8: Imperial Hue
Travel from Hoi An to Hue via the scenic Hai Van Pass. Explore the historic Imperial Citadel and Forbidden Purple City, then visit the UNESCO-listed Tomb of Minh Mang, set among peaceful gardens. Continue to Thien Mu Pagoda and enjoy a cruise on the Perfume River.

Day 9: Fly to Hanoi
Fly to Hanoi this morning. After lunch, enjoy a tour of the city, taking in the Ho Chi Minh Quarter, the One Pillar Pagoda and the Confucian Temple of Literature. End the day’s explorations with a thrilling cyclo tour through Phan Dinh Phung street and the Old Quarter. Wrap up your ride with a strong Vietnamese coffee at a café overlooking St. Joseph’s Cathedral.

Day 10: Drive to Sapa
Travel to Sapa by coach through the Northern Highlands, arriving in the mid to late afternoon. Vast panoramas of stepped rice terraces ribbon their way across these hills; a testament to the extraordinary skills of the local farmers.

Day 11-12: Sapa
Spend the next two days discovering this verdant and beautiful area of rolling hills and rice terraces with some light walking through the surrounding valleys and villages, and visits to ethnic minority communities including those of the H’mong people.

Day 13: Mount Fansipan – Hanoi
Take a cable car ride up Mt Fansipan, the highest mountain in Indochina. Arrive at the summit to enjoy incredible views from a breathtaking 3,143 metres. After lunch, drive back to Hanoi.

Day 14: Overnight Halong Bay Cruise
Drive east to Halong Bay, where you’ll spend the afternoon and night cruising amongst magnificent karst peaks on the tranquil green waters of Halong Bay, and even explore one of the bay’s many caves.

Day 15: Return to Hanoi
Rise early to admire sunrise over the bay as you cruise back toward the port. Spend the morning cruising back to the pier for your return transfer to Hanoi. Enjoy a farewell dinner and attend a spectacular Vietnamese stage performance.

Day 16: Fly Hanoi to UK
Fly to the UK, arriving home the same or following day.

Hoi An Cooking Class
Learn the skills and secrets of the flavourful Vietnamese cuisine with a cooking class. Head to a local market to pick fresh, seasonal produce before returning to the kitchen, cooking up a storm and feasting on the results!
Hike through Sapa
The best way to experience the beauty of Sapa’s landscapes is to get out into them, which you’ll do on an easy hike through the rice terraces. There will be stops en-route to meet hilltribe communities and learn all about life in the mountains.

Venture off the beaten track to explore fascinating destinations away from the tourist trail. With smaller group sizes and greater flexibility, you will discover the local culture in depth and see sights rarely witnessed by other travellers. Our Go Beyond tours may take you away from the comforts of home but will reward you with the experiences of a lifetime.
Most Wendy Wu groups consist of 10 travellers or more and will be accompanied by both a national escort and local guides. There will usually be no more than 28 travellers in each group although you may encounter other Wendy Wu tour groups while you are travelling.
The physical rating of this tour is 3. A good level of fitness is required as you need to be comfortable walking for 2-3 hours and covering longer distances. Other activities such as cycling will be at a gentle pace and will involve straightforward terrain.
