Although very much Italian today, Sicily has been at the crossroads of almost every Mediterranean civilisation for thousands of years and still retains traces of them all. On this tour you’ll discover ancient Greek ruins in Agrigento and Taormina, medieval wonders in Monreale, and baroque architecture in Palermo. Plus, you’ll get the chance to approach Europe’s tallest active volcano, Mount Etna.

Day 1 – Arrival in Italy
Head to the airport for your flight to Catania. On arrival, transfer by coach to the hotel where you will stay for three nights.
Day 2 – Valley of the Temples
This morning the amazing Greek remains in the Valley of Temples. Here you’ll find 6 brilliantly preserved temples, including Concordia, similar in design to Athens’ Parthenon. Enjoy a guided tour of the site and perhaps visit the museum, which displays finds from the area. You’ll also visit the nearby city of Agrigento before retuning to the hotel in the afternoon.
Day 3 – Monreale & Palermo
Drive to the north coast of the island, taking in the wonderful scenery. Firstly, see the Benedictine Abbey at Monreale, full of medieval mosaics and offering a superb view of Palermo from its roof. In the afternoon, visit Sicily’s capital, Palermo. Pass the Norman Palace and see the Cathedral before returning to the hotel.
Day 4 – Piazza Armerina & Taormina
Today, leave Agrigento and journey to the small town of Piazza Armerina, where you’ll visit a 4th Century roman villa. Have a guided tour of the villa, discovering its frescos and mosaics, some of the finest from Roman antiquity. After the tour, continue on to Taormina, where you’ll stay for 4 nights.
Day 5 – Free day
You are free to explore the beautiful city of Taormina independently. Discover its gardens, piazzas and of course its famous ancient Greek theatre.
Day 6 – Siracusa
Take a drive to Siracusa, once one of the ancient world’s richest cities. Today, discover its cathedral, palace and port before heading to the old city, called Ortygia. You will have the option to take a boat trip around the bay before heading back to the hotel.
Day 7 – Mount Etna
Mount Etna dominates eastern Sicily and this morning; you’ll drive as near to the summit as possible. As you near the cable car station itself you can enjoy extensive views over the whole area. Subject to certain regulations you will have the opportunity to take the cable car, jeep and guide to explore even higher levels.
Day 8 – Return flight
This Signature Tour includes everything from the Classic Tour as well as the following:
Day 3:
– Experience Palermo’s vibrant markets, in the company of a knowledgeable local. Taste the delicious street food and discover the heritage of the flavours of Sicily
Day 5:
– Relax and unwind with an aperitivo, whilst soaking up the spectacular views of Taormina
Day 7:
– Sample the unique wines of Mount Etna and enjoy traditional Sicilian hospitality and an unforgettable lunch amidst the glorious surroundings of an historic winery.
