Day 1: Arrival in Udine
Fly to Italy. Upon arrival transfer to your hotel in Udine.

Day 2: Udine
This morning, enjoy a tour of Udine with a guide, seeing its ancient buildings and piazzas. In the afternoon, you’re free to explore as you wish.

Day 3: Trieste
After breakfast, drive through the countryside to Trieste. Embark on a walking tour of the city, visiting the Piazza Unita d’Italia, Europe’s largest sea-facing square as well as the city’s other highlights. After the tour, you’ll have some free time to wander before you head down the coastal road to Miramare Castle, built by Archduke Maximilian of Habsburg. Spend some time exploring the interior or the landscaped gardens.

Day 4: Mosaic school of Friuli
After a morning at leisure, drive to Spilimbergo to visit the Mosaic School of Friuli. During a guided tour, you’ll learn more about this art form and admire some of the students’ work. Following the tour, you can explore the town itself.

Day 5: Aquileia & rustic lunch
Discover the historic city of Aquileia, exploring its ancient and medieval wonders. Take a guided tour of the Patriarchal Basilica and descend into the Crypt of Frescoes and the Crypt of Excavations to see their treasures. Head to a rustic restaurant for lunch, sampling Friulan dishes before you return to Udine.

Day 6: Cividale
Leave Udine this morning and head to Cividale, sitting in the hills bordering Slovenia. Discover its fascinating history as you visit the Lombard Temple, home to well preserved Byzantine frescoes and fine sculptures. Head to the countryside for a Signature Experience (See Signature Tours for more information), before driving to Ljubljana.

Day 7: Ljubljana
This morning, see the highlights of Slovenia’s capital city in the company of a local guide including the Old Town, the Triple Bridge and Prešeren Square. The afternoon is free for you to spend as you wish before the day’s Signature Experience (See Signature Tours for more information)

Day 8: Lake Bled
Travel to Bled this morning, where you’ll get the chance to see the famous Lake Bled and sail over to Bled Island on a traditional boat. Once on the island you can climb the steps of South Staircase, visit the Church of the Assumption, or simply walk around the island taking in the views. After returning to the shore, you’ll enjoy another Signature Experience (See Signature Tours for more information) before having free time to explore Bled itself.

Day 9: Piran & Lipica
Travel to the coast to visit Piran, where you’ll have free time to explore before travelling to Lipica to visit the Classical Riding School. Here you’ll get to see the rare Lipizzaner horses performing their complex routines before having a chance to learn more about the breed on a tour of the stud farm.

Day 10: Free day in Ljubljana
Today, you have the whole day to explore more of Ljubljana at your own pace. There is also an option to join an optional excursion to the Postojna caves. You’ll explore 5km of the caves by train and foot. (At an extra cost, contact us to add this to your booking)

Day 11: Return home
Transfer to the airport for your return flight home

Day 6:
After exploring Cividale, visit the wine region of Collio Goriziano. Head to one of the region’s celebrated vineyards to taste some of the local wine.

Day 7:
Enjoy an included dinner at a historic restaurant at the foot of Ljubljana Castle.

Day 8:
After a morning exploring, stop at the home of the famous bled cake, enjoying a coffee and slice of cake
