Specialist guides lead excellent walks to Slovenia’s natural wonders, including fairy-tale Lake Bled with a church on an islet and a medieval castle on a cliff, framed by snowy mountains. Lake Bohinj, a hidden gem within a national park, boasts the stunning Savica waterfall and quaint villages.

You’ll stay in the capital, Ljubljana, having a chance to explore the city with a local guided and independently. You’ll also see the coastal city of Piran and the Lipica classical riding school

Day 1 – Arrival in Ljubljana
Fly to Ljubljana before transferring to the hotel by coach

Day 2 – Discover Ljubljana
This morning, enjoy a walking tour of Slovenia’s capital with a local guide. Explore Preseren Square and the Church of the Annunciation before crossing the Triple Bridge to the Old Town, fills with Baroque building and piazzas. There is free time this afternoon for you to carry on exploring.

Day 3 – Walk: Lake Bled
Today, drive through the hills before arriving at Lake Bled. On arrival, embark on one of the two walks available.

Easy Walk (Green)
This walk begins in the Vintgar Gorge before following the Radovna River all the way to the Sum waterfall. Then continue through villages and meadows back to the shore of Lake Bled

Moderate Walk (Blue)
Follow a circular route from Lake Bled, through forests and mountain pastures. Arrive in Vintgar Gorge before making your way back to Lake Bled.

Terrain: Country roads, paths and boardwalks

The rest of the day is yours to explore Bled at leisure.

Day 4 – Walk: Lake Bohinj
Head to the beautiful Lake Bohinj in the heart of the Julian Alps.

Easy Walk (Green)
Ascend through the forest, stopping halfway through to admire the lake. At the top, enjoy views of the mountains and the Savica waterfall. Then descend along the riverbank to Ukanc where there’s time for lunch at leisure before returning to the hotel

Moderate Walk (Blue)
This walk extends past Ukanc along the lakeshore and past traditional wooden buildings

Day 5 – Piran & Lipica
Visit the coastal town of Piran, where the influence of Venice is evident. You have free time to explore its architecture. Perhaps take a climb up to St George’s Cathedral or sample some seafood in one of the restaurants on the waterfront. After lunch, take a short drive to Lipica Stud Farm, where the legendary Lipizzaner horses have been bred for over 400 years. Enoy a presentation by the Classical Riding School and a guided tour.

Day 6 – Return home
Transfer to the airport for your flight home

Walking equipment
Good quality walking shoes or boots are a must. Riviera also recommend a waterproof jacket, comfortable rucksack, hat, sunglasses, sun cream, water bottle and clothes that can be layered easily. Hiking poles are not necessary, but you may wish to take them.

Walking difficulty
There is often a choice between a ‘green’ and ‘blue’ option. A reasonable level of fitness is essential for all walks – while the green walk should suit most travellers, the blue option is perfect for those who prefer a bit more of a challenge.

Routes
While guides will always try to adhere to the route as advertised, they may be required to modify the itinerary due to local conditions. Our guides may also make minor changes to tailor the walk to the group.
