Unlike other holiday destinations and hotels, at all of the Beachcomber hotels in Mauritius, many of the land and water sports are free for guests including water-skiing.

Over and above all of the standard land and water sports, Shandrani also offers a Sailing School and the Beachcomber Sports & Nature Programme.

Land Sports
The Beachcomber Shandrani Resort has 6 floodlit tennis courts (hard courts, Head tennis racket hire is complimentary however tennis balls will need to be purchased), a 9-hole pitch and putt golf course (we recommend you take your own golf balls out with you as they will need to be purchased and are a little pricey in Mauritius), table tennis, volleyball and bocci ball. The hotel offers weekly free group tennis lessons and a pro is on hand for private lessons. Mountain bikes are also available for hire.

Gym
Guests at the Beachcomber Shandrani Resort & Spa may make use of the gymnasium which has machines and free weights and offers a number of aerobic classes.

Water Sports
With its location, on Blue Bay, Shandrani is the perfect spot for water sports and there’s plenty of free sports including; water-skiing, windsurfing, sailing, glass bottom boat trips, snorkelling trips, kayaks and pedal boats. Shandrani also has a dedicated water-ski academy where you can have one to one lessons (4 sessions per week).

Diving
The Shandrani Resort & Spa has the only National Geographic PADI-Diving Centre in the Indian Ocean and offers a comprehensive diving programme. Explore ancient wrecks off the Southern coast and discover sizzling aquariums of tropical fish on the island’s pristine reefs.

Shandrani Sailing Club
The sailing club is a member of the Mauritius Yachting Association and is accredited by the International Sailing Association (ISA). The club is at a small extra charge to guests and is aimed at those trying sailing for the first time or those wanting to hone basic skills. It may therefore not appeal to experienced sailors. You can progress to beginner’s level with an average of just one hour sailing per day for 5 days.

Deep Sea Fishing
Mauritius offers excellent deep sea fishing in season. There is a fishing charter company in the south west of the island that offers half and full day trips on fully equipped specialist fishing boats.

Beachcomber Sport and Nature
The Beachcomber Sport & Nature Programme brings you thrilling close encounters with the island’s fascinating wildlife, combined with a choice of energetic sporting activities – including mountain biking, trekking, canoeing and canyoning. Whichever you choose, you can take part at a level that suits your skills and confidence. To help ensure your safety, you’ll always be accompanied by a qualified instructor and use equipment that’s regularly checked and maintained at the peak of efficiency.

All of the activities in the programme have been designed to bring out the best in the unspoiled landscape of southern Mauritius, and there’s a chance to visit the famous wildlife sanctuary of Ile aux Aigrettes, too. This 60-acre sanctuary provides a home for rare and endangered wildlife, including the almost extinct Pink Pigeon. Rather than being competitive, the half-day excursions are geared towards spending time with family and friends according to individual levels of fitness. The Beachcomber Sport & Nature programme is at an additional cost.

Bee Tour
A fun learning experience that takes you on a guided tour of the beehives placed at Beachcomber Shandrani, aiming to raise awareness of the vital role of bees in biodiversity. This is followed by an interactive bee watching session before tasting the honey from the resort’s gardens.

Beachcomber Shandrani has a choice of 6 restaurants which offer a menu of the day or a la carte option. With a range of options offering everything from light lunches to buffets and elegant cuisine, there is something for everyone.
Occasionally the hotel may use one of its restaurants for a group booking and post-Easter to September the hotel may close two of its restaurants. Smoking is only allowed in dedicated areas.

Dress Code: During the day the dress code is casual, during the evening the restaurants prefer guests to be smart-casual so shirts and trousers (full length) for the men.

Le Grand Port
Le Grand Port is the hotel’s main restaurant offering mouth-watering Creole and Oriental influenced buffet-style cuisine from a number of ‘live’ cooking stations. The restaurant has wooden decking which extends down towards the beach, around the pool plus also offers lovely views over the pool itself and lagoon. Open for breakfast between 07:00 and 10:00, lunch between 12:30 and 15:00 and dinner between 18:30 and 21:30. Seats 320.

Le Sirius
This restaurant has a stunning location looking out across the hotel’s second pool and serves a light tropical á la carte cuisine all day. Open for breakfast between 09:30 and 1100, lunch between 14:00 and 16:30 and dinner (on reservation) from 1900 and 21:30. Seats 120.

Porto Vecchio
The Porto Vecchio has a fantastic, lively atmosphere and serves delicious Mediterranean á la carte cuisine at its location right in the heart of the hotel’s entertainment area. Open for lunch (seasonally) and dinner between 19:00 and 21:30. Seats 120

Le Boucanier
Le Boucanier is set at the tip of the peninsula next to Le Sirius restaurant and serves an a la carte four-course sea-food tasting menu. Guests on the Serenity Plus package can enjoy one free dinner here, including lobster, during their stay. Open for Dinner between 19:00 and 21:30. Seats 40

Teak Elephant
Enjoy a unique dining experience at Shandrani’s Thai restaurant. You can enjoy a fine dining taster menu that changes weekly and is filled with various flavours and spices! Teak Elephant is available for guests over 12 years old and is open between 1900 and 21:30. Seats 70.

Natura

Chef Mooroogen Coopen has teamed up with the spa team  to create healthy, balanced cuisine at Natura Restaurant. Open for dinner (on reservation) from 19:00 and 21:30. Seats 35.

Blue Bay Bar
The Blue Bay Bar is set in the heart of the hotel overlooking the main pool. A delicious pastries selection is served from 16:00 to 18:00. The bar is open from 10:00 to 23:00. The Disco Bar is occasionally open from 23:00 to 01:00

Le Sirius Bar
Located at Le Sirius Restaurant, the bar is next to the second pool and overlooks the lagoon. A sandwich selection is served between 11:00 and 17:00. Open 10:00 to 23:00.
