Day 1: Fly to Bogotá

Overnight flight from London (regional connections available) to Bogotá with Avianca.

Day 2: Villa de Leyva

Early morning arrival and transfer by road to Villa de Leyva, one of Colombia’s finest colonial towns. En route stop at Tunja and Boyacá bridge, the site of the turning point in Colombia’s struggle for independence. Stay 2 nights at the Posada de San Antonio. Afternoon at leisure.

Day 3: Villa de Leyva

Full-day tour of this beautiful town of cobbled streets lined with whitewashed houses. Visit the nearby 120-million-year-old kronosaurus fossil and the Dominican convent.

Day 4: Bogotá

Transfer by road back to Bogotá, stopping at Zipaquirá en route to see the remarkable salt cathedral, built inside an old salt mine. Stay at the Novotel Bogotá Parque 93 for 2 nights.

Day 5: Bogotá

Morning visit to Paloquemao market with its array of flowers and exotic fruits. Continue with a walking tour of the historic La Candelaria district, see Botero’s art collection and visit the Gold Museum, featuring one of the world’s most complete collections of ancient gold artefacts. Afternoon at leisure or optional cable-car ride to Monserrat hill for panoramic views.

Day 6: Fly to Pereira

Fly to Pereira in the coffee region, declared a world heritage site by Unesco. Visit a local coffee farm to learn about the growing and production of high quality coffee beans. Afternoon at leisure and stay for 2 nights at the Hacienda San José, an old colonial-style house with delightful gardens.

Day 7: Coffee region

Today explore the verdant Cocora valley, famous for its wax palm trees – the tallest in the world. Take a walk into the cloud forest and visit the traditional villages of Filandia and Salento.

Day 8: Medellín

Travel by road to Medellín (journey time approximately 7 hours), stopping at a scenic lookout for views over the Cauca river. Stay for 2 nights at the Hotel Poblado Plaze.

Day 9: Medellín

A full-day tour to learn about the cultural and social transformation projects of the city. Visit Comuna 13 to see its street art and outdoor escalators , and take lunch with a cooking demonstration at a community project empowering local women. Continue to the sentre to see the curved sculptures by local artist Fernando Botero and onto Cerro Nutibara hill for panoramic views

Day 10: Fly to Cartagena

Transfer to the airport and fly to Cartagena, a beautiful Caribbean city with old colonial mansions, overhanging flower-filled balconies and small plazas. Stay at the characterful Hotel Santa Catalina for 2 nights.

Day 11: Cartagena

Half-day tour of Cartagena, including a walking tour of the old town, a visit to the impregnable Spanish fort, San Felipe, and San Pedro Claver church with its fine stained-glass windows.

Days 12-13: Fly to London via Bogotá

Morning at leisure in the historic city or an optional visit to the national aviary. Overnight flight to London via Bogotá with Avianca.

Hacienda San Jose, Coffee Region

Built in 1888, Hacienda San José is one of the oldest and best-preserved houses in the coffee region around Pereira. The three centuries of history are reflected in the hacienda’s traditional construction and fine period furniture of the rooms and social areas. The hotel features eight bedrooms with cable television, a swimming pool, a jacuzzi, and a restaurant serving typical Colombian and international cuisine.

Santa Catalina, Cartagena

Santa Catalina Hotel is located in the heart of Cartagena’s old walled town. Blending colonial and modern design, it features exposed brickwork, contemporary decor and light, airy rooms. Enjoy views over the historic centre from the roof terraces, bar and swimming pool.

San Agustin – 2 days, 2 nights

Travel to the south and explore the elaborate pre-Columbian ceremonial sites of San Agustín including huge carved stones, burial tombs and impressive statues.

Day 12 – Fly to Pitalito – San Augstin
Morning flight to Bogotá and on to Pitalito*. Transfer by road (approximately 1 hour) to the small town of San Agustín and stay at Akawanka Lodge for 2 nights.

Day 13 – San Augstin
Take a full day tour of San Augstin Archaeological Park and Alto de los Idolos. Visit the small museum, explore the statuary and see the Fuente de Lavapatas site.

Day 14 – Fly to London via Bogota
Transfer to Pitalito and fly to Bogotá to connect to an overnight flight to London with Avianca.
