In just a week visit the highlights of Japan and have a taster of the rich cultural heritage, natural beauty of Mount Fuji and the bustling and dynamic streets of Tokyo.
Days 1 & 2: Fly to Tokyo
Travel to Tokyo. Depending on what time you arrive you can enjoy some free time exploring Tokyo.

Day 3: Explore Tokyo
Today you will head to the top of the Tokyo Skytree for panoramic views over the city before taking a wander through the districts of Asakusa and Nakamise. You will visit the Sensoji, Tokyo’s most famous and beloved temple and then visit Nakamise shopping street. Then, you will discover the Imperial Palace Plaza and take a stroll through Hamarikyu Gardens. You will receive your evening meal whilst cruising on Tokyo Bay.

Day 4: Mount Fuji
You will travel Tokyo to Fuji today, where you’ll visit the 5th Station. If the road to the 5th Station is closed, you will instead visit the Fuji Visitor Centre. After, you will visit the spa region of Hakone by coach then take a cruise on Lake Ashi. Fly up from the lakeside over the Alpinesque hills to the summit of Mount Komagatake on the Komagatake Ropeway, from where you’ll have breathtaking views of Mount Fuji.

Day 5: Bullet Train to Kyoto
You will take the Hikari bullet train to Kyoto, Japan’s ancient capital. In the afternoon, visit the magnificent Fusihimi Inari Shrine and wonder at the thousands of vermillion torii gates that leads through a complex of shrines spread over a peaceful, forested hillside.

Day 6: Explore Kyoto
This morning you will visit one of Japan’s most famous temples, Kinkakuji, also known as the Golden Pavilion. It is situated in a beautiful Zen garden. Then you will Continue to Ryoanji, a Zen temple. In the afternoon, experience a tea ceremony and learn the traditional art of origami.

Day 7: Explore Nara & Osaka
You will travel to Nara and spend the morning exploring Todaji Temple which is home to a great Buddha. Here you will also be greeted by the famous, friendly Sika deer. You will then visit Issuien, a beautiful garden. Then, continue to Osaka, where you’ll have lunch and stroll through the Dontonburi district. Then discover the dark history of Osaka Castle.

Day 8: Fly Osaka to UK
Fly from Osaka to the UK, arriving the same or next day.

Your accommodation is selected for convenience of location, comfort or character, and can range from a business hotel in one city to a family run guesthouse in a smaller town. In more remote areas, accommodation may be of a lower standard and may not have all western amenities. In the Fuji area, hotels tend to be more traditional in style and culture. In this area, you may be asked to take your shoes off at the door and store them in a secure locker – this is very traditional Japanese culture.
Cruise on Tokyo Bay
Embark on a relaxed dinner cruise on the waters of Tokyo Bay, enabling you to look back and admire the bright, twinkling lights of the city by night
Traditional Tea Ceremony
Experience the perfect display of Japanese culture as you witness the preparation and performance involved in the ‘Way of Tea’, a traditional tea ceremony.
Ancient Calligraphy Class
With traditional brushes, ink and paper, try your hand at the beautiful art of calligraphy, an important aspect of Japanese culture since its introduction from China in the 6th century.

This tour has a Level 1 fitness rating. This means that a reasonable level of fitness is required but it’s more about spending time on your feet rather than covering large distances. You’ll be getting on and off coaches and boats, walking around the sights and climbing some steps.
