Days 1-2: Fly to Tokyo
Fly overnight to the neon-lit metropolis of Tokyo, Japan’s capital city.

Day 3: Tokyo City Tour
Take a city tour of Tokyo, starting with the Tokyo Sky Tree, the tallest structure in Japan. Afterwards visit the Sensoki Temple and the Hamarikyu Gardens. This evening, enjoy a dinner cruise on Tokyo Bay.

Day 4: Mt Fuji
Take the bullet train to Odawara. From here, take a boat trip on Lake Ashi before heading up the Komagatake Ropeway. Next, head up to Mount Fuji’s 5th Station (weather permitting) for breathtaking views.

Day 5: Matsumoto Castle
Visit the magnificent Matsumoto Castle. Then, head to a Miso House to learn about how this famous seasoning is produced. Later on, travel to Takayama, nestled in the Japanese Alps.

Day 6: Explore Takayama
Head to the Miyagawa morning market where we can purchase local crafts and sample the regions delicious fruit and vegetables. We then visit some of Takayama’s traditional houses and local museums including the Takayama Festival Floats Museum, Kusakabe Folk Museum and Takayama Jinya. You’ll also enjoy some free time in Kamisannomachi Street.

Day 7: Shirakawago & Kanazawa
Journey to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Shirakawago, famous for its gassho-zukuri farmhouses. Continue to Gokayaama to try washi paper making, then travel to Kanazawa. Here you’ll wander though the Kenrokuen Garden.

Day 8: Gold Leaf Making
Begin the day learning the process of making gold leaf. Later stroll through traditional Higashi Chaya, visiting Ochaya Shima – a historical geisha house. Afterwards, journey to Kyoto.

Day 9: Explore Kyoto
Begin the day with a visit to Ryoanji and the famous Kinkakuji temple. In the afternoon, visit a resort wooden townhouse and try your hand at origami. Then, enjoy a tea ceremony.

Day 10: Discover Nara
This morning, visit the Fushimi Inari Shrine before travelling to Nara. Stroll through Nara Park to Todaiji Temple, meeting the sika deer before exploring Isuien Garden.

Day 11: Koyasan
Travel to the holy mountain of Koyasan today. Wander around Okunion, a vast cemetery and enjoy the tranquility of Kongobuji Temple and the Garan Temple Complex. From here, travel onto Osaka.

Day 12: Explore Osaka
Begin the day by exploring Osaka Castle before a short cruise along the Yodogawa River. Then, stroll through Dotonburi where you’ll sample local dishes for lunch. The remainder of the day is free to spend as you wish.

Day 13: Fly Osaka to UK
Fly to the UK, arriving home the same or following day.

Join a dedicated craftsperson in a small workshop to learn all about the lovely and intricate art of gold leaf making, discover what the gold lead is then used for and have a go at doing it yourself!
Learn about Miso Seasoning
Learn all about the traditional production of an essential element of Japanese cooking, the fermented soybean paste ‘miso’, at an old wooden miso house.
