In the afternoon, head in land to the Šipčanik wine cellar, located in an underground aircraft hangar. While here, tour the vineyard and try some of the wine produced here.
Day 3 – Njeguši & Cetinje
From the coast, travel through the mountains into Lovćen National Park. Here, you’ll find the charming village of Njegusi, the home village of the family that ruled Montenegro from 1696 to 1916. After a short stop here, continue to Cetinje, the old royal capital.
This city boasts some of the country’s most important sights, including the Blue Palace, the President’s main residence as well as the Royal Palace of King Nikola. Tour the Royal Palace this afternoon, followed by some free time to wander around the city.
After a tasting of local mountain produce, return to the hotel.
Day 4 – Stari Bar & Shkodër
This morning, visit the town of Stari Bar, a fortified town that now lies in overgrown ruins, with most locals having left after the 1979 earthquake to establish a new city by the water. Take a walk up to the top of the fortress for brilliant views of the mountains or relax in one of cafes.
Later on, cross the border in Albania, heading to the city of Shkoder, one of the oldest cities in the Balkans and an important hub of history, religion and culture. Here you’ll see fascinating mosques and churches alongside each other as well as the ruined Rozafa Fortress.
Day 5 – Kotor & Perast
Make the short journey from Budva to the splendid Bay of Kotor. The first stop today is the moated town of Kotor itself. Here a tour will showcase the medieval town’s churches and fortifications as well as colourful market.
Travel a little along the bay, where you’ll find the idyllic town of Perast. Perast is renowned for its man-made island, crowned by the Our Lady of the Rocks. A short boat ride brings you to the island to look around the charming church and museum before you return to the mainland for a scenic drive around the bay. At the end of the day, board the ferry across, heading back to Budva
