Begin by visiting the little villages of ‘old’ Holland, from where the Dutch East India Company’s ships set off in quest of silks and spices in the 16th century. Then it’s on to Arnhem, the site of the famous battle in 1944, followed by Antwerp, the city of Rubens and Diamonds, with its main square bordered by the towering step-gabled merchant’s homes so distinctive of the ‘low’ nations. Then, in charmingly ancient Ghent, experience the best of Flanders.

From here, we can see Ypres and Bruges, one of Europe’s finest ‘old world’ cities. Listen to the carillon from the instantly recognisable Bell Tower, enjoy a coffee in the old market square, and ponder on how great life can be. Finally, we come upon one of nature’s most beautiful flower displays, the Dutch Bulbfields, a kaleidoscope of colour.
