Wilderness Hotel Muotka is a lovingly renovated family-run property set in a secluded snow-laden winter wonderland, 15 kilometres from Saariselkä village. Its idyllic location, on the edge of the pristine Urho-Kekkonen National Park, guarantees minimal light pollution and an increased potential for seeing the Northern Lights.
The Lodge radiates an atmosphere of warmth and relaxation from the moment you arrive. The reception building has a restaurant with open fireplace, small lounge, and bar. The lodge’s sauna has separate times for men and women and is also bookable for private use (payable locally). There is also an outdoor fireplace, shelter, and Sámi Kota hut.
Inghams have included a full range of daytime arctic activities, including carefully selected husky, reindeer, and snowmobile safaris. You can also enjoy these special surroundings by snowshoe or cross-country skis on a network of over 300 kilometres of prepared trails. In the evenings you can embark on included aurora hunts where Muotka’s expert Guides will take you in search of the Northern Lights by minibus, snowmobile, or snowmobile-pulled sled.
As well as the activities listed, Christmas Week also includes gingerbread baking, tree decorating and a visit from Santa with a small gift for all the children on Christmas Eve.
New Year Week also includes a bonfire, midnight fireworks and a glass of sparkling wine on New Year’s Eve. There are festive dinners on both dates including Lappish specialties.

Muotka Wilderness lodge features 36 rooms.
Wilderness Rooms
These rooms can sleep between 1 and 3 people and are decorated in a welcoming, cosy Nordic style. Beds can be arranged as either a double or twin beds. Guests will also find a shower, hairdryer, and WC.
Superior Sauna Suites
One room suites, these sleep between 2 and 4 people. Inside, you’ll find a double bed, a private sauna and lounge area. Two extra beds can also be added for children.
Panorama Log Cabins
These spacious log cabins are perfect for those waiting plenty of space, with a double bed, private sauna, and lounge area. The panoramic windows here give a brilliant view of the landscape to enjoy while sitting by the fireplace.
Riverside Log Cabins
Brand new cabins, these accommodations overlook the river. These two storey cabins are perfect for larger groups, with a living and dining room, a double bedroom, and a bathroom on the first floor and 3 extra single beds in the loft area. Please note, this accommodation type is by request only.
Aurora Cabins
These one room cabins are located away from the main buildings and can be pre-booked for one night during your stay. All of them have north facing semi-glass roofs.
Guests staying at Muotka Wilderness Lodge have all meals and complimentary tea and coffee included in their holiday package.
Breakfast is served buffet style, offering both hot and cold options. Lunch is either enjoyed in the main lodge or around an open fire while out on excursions.
Dinner is a three-course waiter served dinner, with a selection of dishes for each course.
The Wilderness Lodge can accommodate gluten free, vegan, vegetarian and dairy free dietary requirements. Please inform us of any dietary requirements at the time of booking.
