Day 1: UK to San Jose
Travel to airport using Titan Travel’s shared chauffeur service and take a flight to San Jose.

Day 2: San Jose
This morning, take a tour of San Jose, visiting both the residential and business areas. During the tour, you’ll see the central market and cathedral, the Supreme Court of Justice, and the University. You’ll also have entrance to the National Opera House and the Pre-Columbian Gold Museum. The afternoon is at leisure.

Day 3: Tortuguero
Drive through banana plantations to the Tortuguero Canals, where you’ll board a boat to travel to your lodge for lunch. After lunch, take a short boat ride to the village of Tortuguero where you’ll visit the Turtle Preservation Centre. Here you’ll get to learn about the centre’s work to protect the turtles who lay eggs on the nearby beach.

Day 4: Tortuguero National Park
Take to the canals again this morning to explore the tropical rainforest and search for the animals that make their homes here. The afternoon is free for you to relax or alternatively join a guided hike.

Day 5: Sarapiqui
After breakfast, travel to your next lodge in Sarapiqui, stopping for lunch on the way. Enjoy some time to relax before taking a nighttime walk through at the La Tirimbina Biological Reserve. Your guide will help you look out the nocturnal inhabitants.

Day 6: Sarapiqui
Today is free to enjoy the optional activities on offer in the area. Learn about indigenous cultural at the eco lodge or head off on a relaxing walk. Alternative, join an excursion to La Tirminbina to learn about native bat species.

Day 7: Arenal
Journey to Arenal National Park to walk along the base of the Arenal Volcano. In the afternoon, visit the nearby hot springs to relax before enjoying a traditional Costa Rican dinner

Day 8: Monteverde
Cross Arenal Lake to take in the views of the volcano and arrive at Rancho Heliconia where you’ll learn about Costa Rican culture, try home-grown coffee, and have a home-made lunch. You’ll then get the chance to plant a native tree to help reforest the area. In Monteverde, follow a guide on a night walk through the Curi-Cancha Cloud Forest Reserve.

Day 9: Monteverde
Walk through the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve this morning before visiting the nearby Butterfly Gardens. The rest of the day is free, thought you may wish to join an excursion to the forest canopy

Day 10: Monteverde to Tarcoles
Spend the morning in the Monteverde Orchid Garden, home to 450 types of orchids. Then, head to Tarcoles for a crocodile safari before a late lunch.

Day 11: Carara National Park
Today, visit Carara National Park, home to over 400 species of birds including the scarlet macaw and the collared aracari. The afternoon is free to spend as you wish.

Day 12: Manuel Antonio National Park
Head to Manuel Antonion National Park for a leisurely hike to try and spot some of the animals here. (This excursion is not guaranteed due to limited numbers of visitors allowed per day. If you can’t access the Park, an alternative excursions will be arranged)

Day 13: Corcovado National Park
Early this morning, take a boat trip down the coast to reach Corcovado National Park. Spend the morning hiking before another short boat trip to where you’ll enjoy lunch. Then, head back to the hotel.

Day 14: San Gerardo de Dota
This morning’s excursion brings you to San Gerardo de Dota, a great place for spotting the quetzal. As you enter the cloud forest, stop for a guided walk to see the local plants and animals. In the afternoon, join a bird watching excursion before continuing to your lodge.

Day 15: San Jose & Flight Home
Today is your final chance to search for the quetzal on the nearby trails and to visit the hummingbird garden. Then, head to San Jose airport for your flight home.
