Day 1: Arrival in Italy
Fly to Rome or Perugia, and transfer to your hotel.

Day 2: Perugia & Free afternoon
Following breakfast, you’ll set off on a guided tour of the city, seeing the Piazza IV Novembre, home to the San Lorenzo cathedral, the Palazzo dei Priori and the Maggiore Fountain. You can also take an escalator down to the medieval level of the city, hidden within the Rocca Paolina fortress. In the afternoon, you’re free in explore independently.

Day 3: Assisi
This morning head for Assisi, an elegant hill town dominated by the vast Basilica of St Francis complex. Wander the streets with a local guide and learn how St Francis came to be so highly revered in Italy. You’ll have some free time to explore the town centre afterwards.

Day 4: Lake Trasimeno & Cortona
Travel to Lake Trasimeno, known as the ‘Sea of Umbria’ by locals. From the lakeside town of Passignano, take a ferry to Isola Maggiore. Take a ferry back to Casiglione del Lago, enjoying the view of the Castello del Leone before continuing to Cortona.

Day 5: Spoleto & Wine Tasting
Enjoy a morning tour of Spoleto before heading into the countryside to visit a leading producer of Sagrantino di Montefalco wine. Here you’ll sample some wine and olive oil.

Day 6: Frasassi Caves
Drive to the Marche region and delve underground to explore the Frasassi Caves, stunning karst caves, the largest of which is big enough to house Milan Cathedral. In the afternoon, return to Perugia for an afternoon at leisure.

Day 7: Orvieto & Agriturismo Lunch
This morning visit Orvieto, whose ancient ruins lie in underground caves. After a ride up the tree-lined funicular to the old town and discover the majestic cathedral. Afterwards, stop at a rural restaurant to sample a menu of traditional fare.

Day 8: Return flight
Transfer to the airport for your return flight

Dinner at the Sangallo Palace Hotel

This tour includes daily breakfast only, so you have the flexibility to enjoy the local cuisine at the town’s fine restaurants. If you wish to dine in at the Sangallo Palace Hotel, you may pre-book dinner for 3 nights.
