Fly to Amman arriving late in the evening. On arrival you will be transferred to your hotel for your overnight stay. On arrival, transfer to your hotel with the remainder of the day at leisure.
Today enjoy a city tour followed by a drive to Jerash, an ancient Roman city known as the Pompeii of the East. Learn about the city’s past and watch a favoured Roman pastime, chariot racing. Arriving in the town of Ajloun, you will visit the fortress of Qa’lat Al Rabad, overlooking the Jordan Valley.
This morning, enjoy a tour of the old city of Amman, exploring the Citadel and Roman theatre. Head out of the city for a visit to some of Jordan’s Desert Castles which are beautiful examples of early Islamic art and architecture. Return to Amman this afternoon for a visit to a Nai-making workshop where, under the tutelage of a local expert, you will learn how to make your own instrument.
Today you will make your way to Mount Nebo, the site of Moses’ Tomb. Here there are ruins of 4th and 5th-century churches whose floors are still covered with marvellous and intricate mosaics. Continue to the town of Madaba where you will visit the Orthodox Church of St George and the Madaba Mosaic Map, the oldest surviving depiction of the Holy Land. Travel to Petra which is sure to be one of many memorable highlights of this tour.
This morning you will explore the beauty of the Lost City, exploring its many caves and tombs. Surrounded by imposing mountains and approached through a deep, narrow cleft in the rocks known as the Siq, Petra is a unique and unforgettable place and, enhanced by the play of light and shadow, an altogether overwhelming experience. You have the afternoon to yourself before your evening tour of Petra where you’ll see it lit up by candlelight.
Start with a visit to Little Petra before transferring to Wadi Rum, the Valley of the Moon. Wadi Rum is like a moonscape of ancient valleys and towering weathered sandstone mountains rising out of white and pink coloured sands. Explore Lawrence’s Road, drive among sand dunes and canyons and venture through the dry oasis, exploring the most interesting and exciting sites of Wadi Rum. This evening you will stay in a unique desert camp.
Check out of your desert camp in Wadi Rum this morning and head north along the Jordanian/Israeli border to the Dead Sea – the lowest point on earth. After lunch you are free to enjoy the delights of the Dead Sea.
Rise early this morning for transfer back to the airport for your onward arrangements.

Experience Petra by candlelight
A highlight of Jordan and an experience not to be missed – Petra by Night. Seeing the rock hewn edifices by candlelight is a truly memorable moment and one of the best ways to explore the old city. Start by walking the entire Siq (candlelit gorge) to the Treasury, which is lit with over 1,500 candles, bringing this major attraction to light.
Learn to craft a nai
Learn the art of crafting the nai, an authentic musical wind instrument, made of natural reed collected from the Jordan Valley. It is a simple, long, end-blown flute and you will learn all about the history and social stories of the nai, and the technique of creating sound with this unique instrument. It is the main wind instrument of Middle Eastern music. Once you’ve mastered the craft you get to take it home.
