Days 1-2: UK – Beijing
Fly overnight to Beijing, China’s capital City, where you will be met at Beijing Airport in the arrivals hall by your Local Guide and/or National Escort from Wendy Wu Tours. You will then transfer to your hotel for a tour introduction held later that day or the following morning.
Day 3: Beijing
Sightseeing today includes a stroll through Tiananmen Square, past Chairman Mao’s Mausoleum to the treasure-filled Forbidden City, which has the largest and best-preserved collection of ancient buildings in China. We also take a rickshaw ride through the traditional Hutong areas. Our evening meal includes the local delicacy, Peking Duck.
Day 4: The Great Wall
Spend the morning exploring China’s most iconic sight, the Great Wall. After walking along a section of the wall, visit a jade factory and the Summer Palace.
Day 5: Temple of Heaven
Visit the magnificent Temple of Heaven before boarding a bullet train to Xian.
Day 6: Terracotta Warriors
Visit the Terracotta army and see how they are replicated. In the evening, enjoy traditional Shui Jiao dumplings and watch a Tang Dynasty dance show
Day 7: Ancient City Walls
Visit the Little Wild Goose Pagoda and stroll along the 14th century city walls. We also stroll through the lively Muslin Quarter, past the Great Mosque to explore the Islamic food markets.
Day 8: Bullet train to Chengdu
Head to Chengdu on the bullet train where there is the option to see the Sichuan Opera.
Day 9: Chengdu Panda Reserve
Visit the famous Panda Conservation Centre to learn about the centre’s breeding programme. You’ll also visit the People’s Park and a traditional tea house
Day 10 – Board your cruise
Fly to Yichang where you’ll board your cruise ship
Days 11-13 : Yangtze River Cruise
Visit the Three Gorges Dam as you cruise upstream, enjoying dramatic scenery throughout. Enjoy a side trip to the Shennong or Goddess Stream as well as various shore excursions
Day 14 – Bullet Train to Guilin
Disembark the cruise ship in Chongqing before boarding the bullet train to Guilin
Day 15 – Li River Cruise
Take an idyllic cruise along the Li River to the charming town of Yangshou.
Day 16: Yangshou
Explore the surrounding countryside before enjoying an afternoon at leisure with a range of activities available including cycling, bamboo rafting and hiking
Day 17: Guilin
Return to Guilin and take a tour of the South China Pearl Museum.
Day 18: Travel to Shanghai
Today fly to the exuberant city of Shanghai. On arrival wander through the Xintiandi area to admire the 1920s architectural styling.
Day 19: Suzhou
Today travel to Suzhou. Suzhou is renowned for its gardens – visit one of the finest, the Humble Administrator’s Garden.
Days 20-21: Shanghai
Sightseeing today includes a stroll through the beautiful Yu Gardens and the Old Town as well as a visit to the Shanghai Museum. We also walk along the famous Bund with its colonial architecture.
The next day, visit the modern Pudong area and explore the restored Xintiandi area with its unique 1920’s style shikumen buildings. In the evening, enjoy a cruise on the panoramic Huangpu River.
Day 22: Shanghai – UK
Your accommodation is selected for convenience of location, comfort or character, and can range from a business hotel in one city to a family run guesthouse in a smaller town. In more remote areas, accommodation may be of a lower standard and may not have all western amenities.

The tours are on a fully-inclusive basis so you’ll travel with the assurance that all your arrangements are taken care of. You will be accompanied by our dedicated and professional National Escorts and local guides, whose unparalleled knowledge will turn your holiday into an unforgettable experience.
Coaches: Coaches with air conditioning are used on our group tours for city sightseeing, short excursions to the countryside and longer transfers where necessary.
Planes: Internal flights are based on economy class, with reputable airlines.
Cruise ships: On this tour you will take a 4-night cruise up the Yangtze River. Your cabin on your Yangtze River cruise ship will have a private bathroom and balcony. Please note that the cruise ship and all shore excursions arranged by the cruise are on a shared basis.
Most Wendy Wu groups consist of 10 travellers or more and will be accompanied by both a National Escort and local guides. There will usually be no more than 28 travellers in each group although you may encounter other Wendy Wu tour groups while you are travelling.
This tour has a Level 1 fitness rating. This means that a reasonable level of fitness is required but it’s more about spending time on your feet rather than covering large distances. You’ll be getting on and off coaches and boats, walking around the sights and climbing some steps.
