The highlight of this two-week tour is a four-night cruise on the Yangtze River. Sail through the Three Gorges where the vertical cliffs rise dramatically from the water. Add to this a visit to the famous panda reserve in Chengdu and it’s easy to see why this tour is a long-term favourite.

Days 1-2: UK – Shanghai
Fly overnight to the cosmopolitan city of Shanghai. The rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 3: Shanghai
Sightseeing today includes a stroll through the beautiful Yu Gardens and the Old Town, before visiting a silk factory. Take a cruise on the Huangpu River before dinner.

Day 4: Modern Pudong
Spend your morning explore the modern Pudong area of the city before flying to Yichang where you will board the cruise ship.

Days 5-7: Yangtze River Cruise
Over the next three days, take a side trip to the attractive Shennong or Goddess Stream and enjoy various shore excursions.
Day 8: Historic Ciqikou
Disembark from the cruise vessel this morning and transfer to Ciqikou, known for its porcelain. Spend some time strolling through the district before continuing onto Chengdu.

Day 9: Chengdu Panda Reserve
Visit the famous Panda Reserve to see these adorable animals being reared in wooded surroundings reminiscent of their natural habitat. Later, fly to the former ancient capital of Xian. In the evening we will enjoy a traditional Shui Jiao dumpling meal followed by a performance of Tang Dynasty dancing

Day 10: Terracotta Warriors
Visit one of the most important archaological discoveries of the 20th century – the Terracotta Warriors – the figures include warriors, chariots, horses, officials, acrobats, strongmen and musician – followed by a walk along the Ancient City Wall.

Day 11: Explore Xian
Visit the Little Wild Goose Pagoda, one of two significant pagodas in the city of Xi’an and walk through the markets of the Muslim Quarter. Later, take the bullet train to Beijing.

Day 12: Beijing
Head to Tiananmen Square, Beijing’s symbolic heart, and into the sprawling magnificence of the Forbidden City. Also soak up the harmonious ambience of the Temple of Heaven, an orderly oasis in a bustling urban landscape, and end the day watching a Chinese acrobatic show.

Day 13: The Great Wall
Walk on the Great Wall before visiting a jade factory. Spend the afternoon wandering through the gardens of the Summer Palace before enjoying Beijing’s specialty- Peking Duck- for dinner.

Day 14: Beijing – UK
Fly to the UK, arriving home later the same day or the following morning
